You have got to have a car. The best parts arn't on the rail network. Plus gthe train is full of wankers from New Zealand and Australia.

if you fancy something a bit fun you can hire Caterhams from Glasgow, not that cheap on a budget but brilliant!
Either way definitely worth having a car! If you want some good trips from Glasgow can recommend a few. Consider some of the island distilleries for brilliant whisky and scenery! The Whisky Regions | VisitScotland Food and Drink Highland Caterham Hire, Caterham 7 sports car hire in the Highlands and Islands of Northern Scotland, great roads, spectacular scenery and so much FUN Car hire and van hire in London and throughout the UK.*- Sixt Car Hire UK good prices for car rental from Glasgow airport Edinburgh great again depends what you are into but this is worth a visit- http://www.realmarykingsclose.com/ImageGallery.aspx hidden underground old streets and houses! Prague is amazing for the food but the winner and must visit is the Staropramen brewery!

I would second the idea of hiring a Caterham in Scotland.
I did it a couple of years ago and it is the perfect car for exploring the country. Wonderful trip as long as I didn't think about shifting with my left hand and just did it. If I thought about it what a mess. ![]()

Wow...great info ! Renting the caterhams would be fun !
We would like to drive as much as possible so if we see something cool we can just stop and check it out. Obviously there are times when that is not possible. The toughest part of the car scenario is that we would not be returning to our original destination. What about visas ? It was mentioned that we would need them for Russia,...any other countries that require them ? The hotel ideas look really great !

What have you planned on seeing in Norway? The fjords and mountains, or stuff in Oslo, like the Opera and Holmenkollen?

OK, the plan is all set....with leeway for exploring. We will fly into Munich, stay for 2 nights. Then we drive to Stuttgart for a half day and continue to Prague for 3 days. Leaving Prague for 4 days in Berlin, flying to Helsinki and train to Joensuu. Leave from Helsinki 3 days later for 7 days in Scotland (Edinburgh, Speyside, and Glasgow). While in Speyside we will be staying at the Highlander.
We have a car in Germany and Scotland so we are free to see what we want. I can't wait ! P.S. The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be in Prague when we are, should be a great time.

You realize, of course, that Stuttgart and Prague are totally in the opposite directions from Munich. You'll be backtracking a few hours.
