I used the patch and it worked for me. But I admire your advice. Except for the $240K part.

Did insurance pick that bill up?

I tried the electronic cigarette for a while. I didn't like it.
I like smoking, but i didn't like buying them all the time. Every week and a half a carton cost me 50 some odd bucks. I was getting tired of it.

I tried the electronic ones but the same thing happened. Every week I was buying those god damn cartridges. 5 in a pack bull****.
I switched to a pipe instead. Went out and bought a few good pipes, pouches, tampers and whatever else I needed. Now I haven't had a cigarette in about 6 months.

I have a bowl in the morning after walking the dogs and then periodically throughout the day.
It costs about 16 bucks every 2 weeks for good pipe tobacco. I buy 6 ounces every 2 weeks.

If you switch to a pipe, you will never think about a cigarette again. They taste like **** after smoking a pipe.

A good pipe will run you about 80.00. Figure a few hundred dollars, and you will be good to go. Depending on how many you buy.
The good thing about a pipe is, the quick smoke doesn't happen. You are not having a smoke while walking from your car to the store. You are not having a smoke while walking down the street.
It's more of a 'I'll sit for a sec and have a smoke".

Smoke up! You deserve it!!

an average e-cig has battery between 1000 mah up to 2000+ mah, running between 6w to 9w, or even more. Do you thinking holding it up and sucking it into your mouth would get considerable amount of radiation?

The device uses heat to vaporize liquid chemicals, primarily synthetic (!) nicotine and polyprene glycol (?), but also artificial flavours and who knows what else - remember, they are made in China, where even baby formula can be poisonous - into a vapor that you inhale into your lungs.

No one knows if this is safe. We know it doesn't cause discernible health effects right away, and that is all we know. Interestingly, that is about what we knew about cigarettes back in WW2 or whenever they became popular (weren't they supplied free to US GIs?)

No one has done any real long term testing in animals or humans. The manufacturers don't really care to. There are zero standards for these things or for the liquid being vaporized and inhaled.

So, the users are doing the long term health testing.

I think they are probably safer than cigarettes. But I'd still get off them as quickly as you can. I think it is perfectly possible that, in a decade's time, people will be sick from some effect of these that we don't know about today.

Anyway, there is a chance that FDA will ban them soon. Canada already has, as have several other countries.

Ionizing radiation? What type and how would it be produced by the device?

I buy all my stuff local.

No Chinese products.

No synthetic Nicotine. If you've vaped it you can tell the difference.

PG, the base material/carrier has been used in asthmatic inhalers / nebulisers for 60 years.

I've never figured out why people start in the first place.
The first few times - the buzz (and trying to be cool)

Then it's the warm feeling a deep drag provides - it is nice. It's relaxing.

It is a bad habit but after 25 years I still crave them from time to time. Imprinted on my neuron unit.

Well, you can continue and take your chances like I did.

I quit on the morning of my B-Day Dec. '06. I woke up and went to make some notes re: a TV interview I was watching, I couldn't read my own writing. Frightened, I called my g/f (an MD) and she said my speech was off and that I must have had a stroke (TIA).
Long story short, I had smoked 2-3 packs of Djarum clove cigs/day for 7 yrs.
The night before was the last cig I smoked in my life.
I had my neighbor write employee checks for two months.
.
Another TIA in March, '10 and angina getting worse.
Vessels too plugged for stents - quad by-pass on May 11, 2011 ($165,000 - insurance paid all but $1,600).
.
I must say, if I hadn't had the 1st stroke in '06, I'm not sure I would have quit.
I loved to smoke so much that I altered my life-style to continue. I became a recluse, of sorts. The walls in my house took on that beautiful Tuscan cream/tan color.
.
For me, I noticed that the temptation to smoke lasted for a short period of time (minutes)...if I could just hold out until it passed, I was OK.
That's how I did it...but you kow, I really didn't have a choice, and that made quiting easier, IMO.
.
Best of luck and good health to all.

I might get one just so I can take the same frequent breaks at work that the smokers do.

I mix my own juice with very low Nicotine, Propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and flavor. All made in U.S. Safe? I don't know. Safer than the real cigarette? I am not sure either, but many said it is.

Aigel, any device has electrons flow can emit some levels of radiation. How much, I have not done research. What I said above was a question.

I love smoking. I have not had one for 15+ years. Went from 50-70 a day to zero overnight. I have not even had as much as a puff since. I will always be a smoker who chooses not to smoke. For my family and for me.

My boss uses one in the office but still smokes the real stuff outside, just make sure if you're trying to use them to quit that you also have a plan and a quit date. I quit I 2008 on my last day in the Navy (because they were $2.50 on base and $5.00 in town) using Chantix. I threw away all ash trays and smoking parafanaila and left a half of a pack of cigs in my toolbox to keep me from getting the erge to go by more. One week after starting the meds I never smoked again, and never will.

I do not think there is any mechanism that can cause ionizing radiation in an electric cigarette that is nothing but a battery with a heater coil. Sure, there may be some low level electromagnetic fields, but nothing that's even close to a cell phone. I would worry a lot more about inhaling the materials you list. Sure, they may be used in asthma inhalers, but last time I checked, those aren't used 20 times a day.

Good luck,

G

What is actually in e-cig juice? Hard to say. There are zero standards, controls, labeling requirements. In at least one test, undesirable stuff was found.

FDA: Electronic cigarettes are a no-no | Booster Shots | Los Angeles Times

What does inhaling the vapor do? In the long run, no-one knows. In the short run, at least immediately after inhaling, vaping appears to have negative effects on lung function.
