Fire Season
Rising temperatures and changing precipitation patterns associated with climate change are likely to increase wildfire levels in California and the West in coming decades, according to a new study.
The research, published Tuesday in the journal Ecosphere, underscores the need for Californians to learn how to coexist with wildfire. "Fire is not going anywhere," said Max Moritz, a UC Cooperative Extension wildfire specialist and the paper’s lead author. “We need to map out where in the landscape it's safe to live and where it's not." Scientists led by a UC Berkeley team studied 16 global climate models to develop a projection of global wildfire patterns. Although the forecast for the next few decades was inconclusive for about half of the planet, the models were in general agreement that by the end of the century, much of the world will experience more fire than it did in the past decade. California and the West are expected to experience that jump sooner, with fire frequency rising over the next 30 years. - LA Times |

It's probably not well known but MI has a few annual forest fires lately. This year a bunch has burned in the UP and Norther MI. But they'll probably never make national news. They're significant here anyways, at least to me....

Here where I live in So Cal, we had fires in '03 & '07. The '03 fire burned up to about 100 yds. or less from where I built our house. The possibility of fire is why I keep a good defense perimeter and went with the type of exterior finish I did. I'm in hopes the last two major fires burned up enough fuel, another really big one won't get a good start for some years. These things are going to be more & more a fact of life.

I keep a 200 foot fire perimeter, more or less. I also have fire insurance at $250/sq.ft.

These same experts have been saying for decades that temperatures are rising, but the truth is they were wrong.
They said the ice caps would be melted, glaciers would be gone, sea levels would rise and flood all the sea-side cities, poloar bears would die off, all sorts of bad stuff was supposed to have already happened according to them. But then reality had to rear it's ugly head. There has been no appreciable rise in global temperaure in the past 15 years. They took a natural and temporary trend and tried to use it to predict a long term change and were motivated by $$$$$$$$$ and a certain political faction's desire to manipulate and brainwash people into changing their lifestyles to suit the people who know what's good for the rest of us. Whether they were just FOS or flat out lied, they have no more credibility (as if they ever did.)

BTW I remember several years ago we were having way more fires in so Cal than normal, and one of our fellow pelican posters suggested that people shouldn't live in those fire-prone places, we're just asking for it and it's our fault and the rest of the country shouldn't have to pay for our irresponsibility.

I see some people just don't understand what "global warming" actually refers to and make fancy graphs that mean little.
