Our first lab grew up with our daughter and always sat and watched over her. She loved kids more than anything. Although she learned to stay a few feet from our boy just after these pics because he liked to stick his fingers places she did not appreciate. I know there are some that would not approve of her sitting close to the kids, but she would give her life to protect those kids.

^^ ha ha......the herd! They're so pretty/handsome though....
![]() Winkipop turns 16 in May. For the past week she hasn't been able to walk normally - back legs buckling a bit. She's not fat (34 lbs.) - so we went to see her doctor today. We discussed meds and physical therapy and he also mentioned barometric pressure as a possible factor. It's been crazy weather here the past coupe weeks, so he may be onto something. Otherwise she's in remarkable health for her age. Doc even worked both her back legs and said she has full range of motion in both - 100% in her knees. Everything felt very healthy. Now I know she has some osteoarthritis - but that's to be expected. For now she gets an extension and we'll see how it goes. This same thing happened back in 2016 and the meds got her back on her feet that time. Hope we can do it again.

Is it arthritis? Bad tendons? Muscle weakness?
We used condroitin with Cowboy. CBD oil was next. Swimming as therapy.

The doc said it could just be the barometric pressure fluctuations we've been going through, but I'm sure arthritis is a factor. She's been slowing down a lot for the last couple years, understandably. Here's what she's getting right now.....and I'm going to do as much PT as I can. We don't have a pool and the ocean water is too cold right now. We'll see what happens. Meds: Rimadyl 100mg chewable - 1/2 tablet per 12 hours Tramadol HCL 50mg - 2.5 tablets per 8 hours Thyro-tabs .4mg - 1 tablet per 12 hours Supplements: Pro-sense Skin and Coat solutions Tumeric chews

Cowboy and t-Rex were both on rymadyl and tramadol. And something else that I can’t remember. It helped. But they had good days and bad days. No telling why. The CBD oil may have just been the placebo effect.
I know the massages worked. We would pet/rub them down every night. They just enjoyed it. Ultimately it was about making the most of the good days, The subject of weight came up. Both were fat. They probably would have lived longer. But when a 16 year old wants a donut we’d give them a donut.

He looks like a great dog to me. I think he's trying to tell you something.

And if you don't want to play, he will take food. Any and all food. He might bury some for later, but he will take it all off your hands.
