G'day!
|
Thanks Sandy......the back story......
The June cover of National Geographic magazine features Layka, who was shot by enemy forces and took four rounds from an AK-47 while helping to clear an enemy compound in Afghanistan. And the story behind the photograph! Layka, a Belgian Malinois, a breed known to have inexhaustible energy—the highest of all dog breeds—graces the June cover of National Geographic magazine. “She was a celebrity in her own right,” Martin said, and after capturing a few frames, “I knew I had my hands full.”

The DOG thread
^^ thanks, had to share that photo. One of the greats, I've seen.
Baz, Wanted to ask you about how Jake has been doing? It been a little while and was just curious about the little guy. Here is the latest Sir Henry Winston. He has adjusted well, getting better and just enjoys hangin out. Has adjusted very well to his crate for bedtime. The wife and I are still amazed at how long he can hold out before doing his business, both numbers. If he could only talk and tell us his hisory. Here is a recap of his appearance. ![]() Hanging out with Jamie on the couch. ![]() Riding in the back seat of the truck. The Mrs found a little hoodie for Henry, a bit too small so she will be getting the larger size. The expression on his face is priceless. The word "REALLY, WTH" comes to mind. ![]() The "REALLY" moment- his expression says it all ![]() ![]() Yesterday, he got his first "official" Schnauzer trim. I gotta admit, I didn't recognize him at first, amazed at the difference. The wife said he was sitting there all proud of his new look while getting finished up. Afterwards, she said it looked like he was prancing around all impressed with himself and his new style. All that is important is that he now has a loving home and it makes the Mrs smile and returns the warmth to her heart to have a "puppers" again. The new look: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers everyone, hope you all have a great day!

While spending the night in the hospital sitting in an uncomfortable chair as moral support for the wife, our son sends us this picture of Henry. Guess he doesn't like the rain and took up residency on his bed.
![]() Made the wife smile, better than any med they could give her during her stay.

My daughter's doggy got home from the vet hospital this morning after having a tennis-ball-sized tumor removed.
He's really really old, really blind, almost completely deaf, and his name is lucky. I sheet you not, I tried to talk her out of naming him that but she insisted and she won and it's been downhill ever since. She's coming home from school tonight and her dog will still be here, which is cool. But this dog has cost me more than all the Porsches I've ever owned. I almost had him put down a few years ago but I chickened out and wrote the checks. Did I mention that when she's away at school he's MY dog? BTW, he is half dachshund and half who knows what, a medium sized dog with really short legs and only about 1 inch if ground clearance. Looks funny. But they put a cone on him to keep him from getting at the stitches. Did you ever see an old blind dog trying to maneuver around and through furniture with a cone on his head? Then he tried to get out his doggy door. It is possible to laugh and cry at the same time. The poor thing looked funny as hell but I could tell from his expression that he couldn't figure out why we were doing that to him.

Here's the new edition to our family, Minah. She turned 11 weeks old on Friday, her big brother Ronin is finally past the "she's cute, but when are you taking her back?" stage.

Sorry for your loss. The loss of a good dog it just a shame. It is sad how short lived dogs are. Get a new puppy or even better a rescue dog.

We added this guy to the family yesterday. He'd been at the local shelter for a week after being picked up originally in LA in early September, then transferred to Oregon in October, now in Spokane. Looking at his medical records since he was a mess. Bad skin, flea infested, ear problems, not fixed until a month ago. Age estimate is 4-6 depending on which vet looked at him. Vet and groomer next week. Seems to be settling in well..........
