A friend of mine taught his dog to drive his boat so he can drink beer.

I'm not a fan of shock collars but for 35 bucks on flea bay, I picked up a remote controlled, dual sound and shock collar. 800 Yards Remote LCD Rechargeable Shock Dog Training Control + Pet Nail Scissors | eBay

I set it at "2" on the 1-5 scale and have so far only used the sound alert. Beeps like a cell phone. The puppy immediately stops yammering and does not seem to shy away when I put it on in the morning like other dogs I have seen....this is my first unit.

Anyways, thought someone may appreciate the input on these things.

Charges off a USB or 110v, 3 days on the collar, 6 on the remote. Even w/o the collar she tends to bark less. I may pick up another collar as the remote controls 2 units.

Found this today.
I can't keep it. Super friendly.

I'm in SC. She has a rabies tag from Harrison, OH.
I'm going to take her my my vet's office tomorrow and have her scanned for a 'chip'.

Judging by her overall condition (dirty, fleas, hungry, etc) I would guess she's been out on her own for a while.

Yes, I know I can call Harrison and give them the rabies tag number. I did that. Was told the last known owners last name and last known street name. They wouldn't give me a phone number, so I guess I'll write them a letter. lol.

Good on ya for trying to help - someone has to!

Wonder if you could give your number to pass on to the owners, as listed on their records.

Alternatively - post on FB with alert to anyone in Harrison, Ohio.

Post on Harrison, Ohio PD - or City Hall or petfinder http://www.countyoffice.org/harrison-oh-animal-shelters/ or ???

Here's the Cincinnati Craigslist also - she may be in lost and found/pets section or you could post an ad....

I would hope the owners are anxious to get her back.

I still have a very poor opinion of humans who lose their companions. Whether 2 or 4 legged....

You could also drop her off at the local shelter, and they could do the footwork on locating the owner.

A Yellow Lab is also a very adoptable breed, especially with her friendly personality (is there such a thing as a Lab that doesn't have a friendly personality?)

Throw them a few bucks to reimburse for their trouble. I'm happy to donate and others would be too.

Keep us posted.

I'm taking her down this morning to be scanned. Maybe better info there.
My wife has been working the facebook angle, as I do not facebook.

Ok.. Finally got more info from the Harrison animal control office.
Unfortunately, the info does not match. Their records show that this tag on her collar belongs to a black and white miniature schnauzer.

So ... what does this mean?
Why would this dog, in SC, be wearing the tag from a different dog in OH?

The answer could lie with the owners of the schnauzer. Like I said before, if you could forward your phone number to them and allow them to contact you, maybe that would at least allow a possibility she is returned to her owner. Who knows.

Otherwise the FB avenue might yield results or as I said, you could drop her at the local shelter with a donation - labs are very adoptable.

Well... the rabies tag comes back with completely different info.
Now it's starting to look like a dog with some random tags thrown on the collar.

I am hesitant to get in the middle of this now and have decided that we are going to contact a local no-kill shelter, give them all info, and let them have at it. If there is something shady going on, then the dog has a shot at a new family. If the current owners are just dickbags... well, I can't fix stupid.

Somebody on facebook said that she is probably "too old" to get adopted, and would likely just get "put down". Nobody wanted Aunt Eunice when she got old, but we didn't put her down. Is a no-kill shelter the dog equivalent of a retirement home?

She's nice enough to keep (not Eunice), but my germane shepherd does not seem to cotton to the idea.

Thanks for the update Cash.....

Don't let anyone tell you a dog isn't adoptable...that's TOTAL BS and pisses me OFF to NO END when all these freaking "experts" start yabbering on and on like they are the know all to everything DOG!!!!!!!! Just because she's in her twilight years doesn't mean CHIT when it comes to adoption!

I think your plan to contact a local shelter is a VERY prudent one on several levels. Especially when you explain to the shelter folks all the research you have already accomplished (type it all out on paper for them if possible) on trying to track down the owner through rabies tag and chip, etc.

And again....leaving some cash to defray their expenses would be a very generous and accommodating move.

You are smart not to upset the home dynamic with your shepherd. As I said before a yellow lab - even an older one - will adopt fairly quickly and likely end up in a great home, hopefully with kids.

Thanks for all you are doing, man.....

They could have used the rabies tag from another dog so they could register it in the city they live in.

It's good she found you. The shelter may also work with rescue groups to get dogs adopted.

If she were closer I'd consider taking her in.
