Sounds like parts and technical support will be available. ![]() However, it cost me 1000 USD for a used hood last week for my 06 AERO, after my wife hit some sort of inanimate object that had it in for her. Another SAAB story... |

I love the old SPGs. Too bad it's hard to find one that's not full of cancer. Here's my old ones:
![]() ![]() Both the 900 and 9000 had an MBC and were freaking rockets at highway speeds, but still easily did better than 30 MPG on the highway. Great cars.

Saab Australia made about 11 or 12 of these (SAAB Enduro) in 1980, They had suspension work, more boost etc. I used to see one in my neighbourhood and loved it, I don't think I've ever seen one for sale.

I have wanted one of these 2dr coupe 900's since I was 17, along with a 72 Ford Capri that seems to never be available.
The classic 900 Saab turbo was an interesting and solid car.

Here is my 81 Saab 900 Turbo.
Who ever said they were cheap. Maybe cheap to purchase however parts are hard to find and they are not that cheap. There was just a deal sign with Saab Part North America and they will be producing parts for Saab Cars Saab was just purchase by A swedish company made up of three companies from Sweden, Japan and China. It will be an electric car.

The lack of parts would obviously kill the late model ones off fairly shortly.
But even if parts are available, they'll still be extinct in 10 years or so (the later model ones). The parts (if available) won't be inexpensive, the labor will be not-so-easy to find and won't be cheap, either. And there just isn't going to be a huge enthusiast interest in keeping something like this on the road, in any significant numbers:

How many Merkurs do you see on the road?
How many Sterling SL? How many Renault Encore, Alliance, Fuegos? How many Daewoo Lanos? How many Diahatsu Rockys? How many Isuzu Impulse?

I just recently bought into the Saab headache when i bought an 03 93 but I love every second of driving that car! it's an amazingly fun car . It does have its electric gremlins but nothing someone used to driving vintage German vehicles can't ignore.

Saab- My brother had a few of them in the 1980's. Quirky but interesting. Even then, parts prices were much higher compared to the BMW's we had. Skip the reminiscing but what was Roger Penske thinking of when he was planning to buy Saab?

Back in 1990, Sterling had purchased significant ad time on CNN It was cheap back then (CNN was no powerhouse), and Sterling wanted to appeal to the smart buyer that watched international news Well, then Iraq invaded Kuwait and our response in "Desert Storm" kept people glued to their televisions tuned to CNN for live coverage of the Baghdad bombings from Wolf Blitzer and others stationed there. It was a huge success for CNN. If you were around back then, and watched CNN, you might recall that Sterling commercials saturated the coverage. Almost every commercial break featured Sterling. You couldn't escape it. The exact same car the Sterling was based on, the Acura Legend, solidified Acura's success. However, Sterling circled the bowl pretty quickly thereafter......even with all that exposure.

^^^Eric - Sold those crappy things from 87 to 91. Worst cars ever and doomed from the start. Norman Brahman (possble name typo) 'Mr. Miami' thought it was the right time to launch a US version of them. The rebate and dealer kickbacks after the second year were comical including huge factory spiffs for sales reps, so we knew it was a crash and burn. (I think some were getting $1500 commission for selling a single Sterling at a blow-out price.) Fresh sold cars commonly were back in the shop for all sorts of issues within the first weeks of ownership. The sister car Acura assembly was far surperior in fit, finish, electrical and of course, reliability. The good deal was having them in a showroom next to and helped sell the new German marque's.

Saabs may not have always been the best vehicles in their class, particularly when GM tried to position them as an alternative to BMW, Audi, and Mercedes. But they had their good points and a lot of personality, enjoy an enthusiast following, and sold a good number of cars over more than four decades in the USA. There are enough cars on the road that parts support will be a business opportunity. I received an email yesterday from eEuroParts that they are now offering aftermarket DIC cassettes. Personally I'm just hoping that this will lead to a screaming deal on a nice Viggen sedan.
