Electric gate openers- preferred brand?
Hello,
The gate that I fixed thanks to the advice of the Pelican crew in this thread was a victim of our last hail storm. Do the Pelican contractors out there have a preferred brand? Since all the hardware is there, I was just going to replace the box and actuator myself. My choices are the Polaris 500 (formerly Rutland) as seen here which would be a direct replacement or some other brand. Someone mentioned a USAutomatic Patriot (link) that is about $400 more expensive than the Polaris. Anyone know anything about USAutomatic Sentry 300? It gets good reviews on Amazon and is quite a bit cheaper. I have gone on Amazon to check them out and it appears as if I should avoid the Mighty Mule. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Neil

I have a linear/osco operator at a remote site I maintain. The sliding gate has been the biggest headache, usually in the winter when it ices up. I did lose the gate operator main board presumably to lightning within the past couple of years, but it was an easy fix.
Anyway hope this helps a little. |

I have had the Mighty Mule 500 for close to five years. Has been reliable except for a lightning hit two years ago. The company gave a discount on the repair to the motherboard. So overall I would recommend them.
