Zeke, I'm with you - the full monty would be lost on me. It would take me many tires and crate motors just to get up to snuff. I would have a ball in one of these things with that good, strong, reliable, long lasting crate motor. It would still be more car than I could handle.
That said, if a guy is competing with one of these things, I guess we need to assume he has risen above our level of lowly duffer. The rest of the guys out there are going to be expecting a certain level of performance, from both driver and car, or they don't have any business being out there to begin with. So, all of that points to an at least somewhat up to spec package, which means a competitive horsepower output. Fortunately, American V-8's, even exceedingly high performance ones, are probably the cheapest horsepower on the planet. Once you have spent the initial buy-in, feeding the beast is relatively cheap. I did this for years in drag racing, building motors for myself and my racing buddies. Big block MOPARs, by the way. Once you have the "good stuff", yearly rebuilds were dirt cheap. I kind of miss those days...

Have driven one of those (JannaKing car) set up for the road course at Road Atlanta. You're going to have a blast with that thing! Big and loud with plenty of brake and tire to match the power plant!!

Guys, I have been driving a short wheel base 911R clone for 14 years, no down force, skinny tires, adequate power, steering with the rear. As you guys know who have tracked these cars they are not easy to drive, the learning curve is steep. Going to a car with lots of power, lots of brakes and heavy, i believe the transition will be somewhat manageable. With the Porsche as w lower HP cars you have to carry speed into the corners. My style is brake hard and power off the corner, so it will take me less time to learn the "Cup" car. Thoughts?

My "thoughts" would be to do a driving school where they have stock cars because as you have noted they are way different. I used to watch them when they ran with HSR West and VARA and the first thing they did after parking was to go up on the stands, wheels off and bleed the brakes, especially the front runners as 3500 or so pounds, even with those massive brakes takes a lot of stopping power getting into turn 3 at the CA Speedway. For a while they used a brake fluid recirc system but I don't know if it would be on your car as that really helps with brake pedal life. Do you have to use the clutch to shift as that is another slightly different thing to learn when you drive? Does your radio system work in the new car and if I remember you also have a video system so make sure they are all go to go. Lastly, I would NOT take both cars to the track, only the cup car for a race or two as you have noted the handling is way different.

I think you're going to learn to very slightly "back" the car into the corner, drift, and drift some more as you steer out. The Pedal Cam is one of the most interesting shots at the stock car road races. You don't see a lot of full throttle.
If your car has a Jerico, you won't use the clutch either. Left foot brake only. |

This is a heal toe car, as I am (old school). The previous owner was heal toe also.
Cars that are left foot brakers usually have the clutch pedal a bit further out, at least that was what I was told.

Nice car but what's it like to drive?
I used to race a VW Beatle. That thing was just plain hard work before race day but rewardingly fun to drive. I know it's not at the same level as yours but it was comfortable. Not like a road car but enough compliance so as to be OK. But I was very young. I'm not sure I could still do it at 47.
