Big "+1" on the Chucks for driving shoes. They are all I've used for years. They have a wide, very grippy rubber sole that make it very easy to heel/toe. They are thin enough to provide tremendous feel on the pedals as well. They also breath pretty well, so they are cool on the feet on a hot day. Not the greatest for walking around the pits on pavement all day, though - that's about their only downside.

I have for the past couple of years used the Johnston & Murphy driving mocs. Very nice, very comfortable, very well-made shoe. I like 'em a lot. Not enough support, really, to be worn as a general shoe, I don't think.

Driving around town and on the highways my shoe of choice is WHAT EVER I HAVE ON MY FEET. Sandals I just kick them off and drive bare foot. Topsiders work great always.
Racing I have Sparco fire proof hi tops.

Actually like driving in my Skeletoes.

I have wide feet, so my choices are limited when it comes to driving shoes. Most of them are way to narrow for me.

Yup - wide feet here as well. Traditional driving (and wrestling) shoes really pinch my feet. I swear my feet are as wide as they are long - think bear paws or something.

I'll have to look for the thinner ones. I've been pretty happy with the "normal" ones, but more feel is never a bad thing. I'm just worried the thinner ones would be even worse for standing and walking. I'm surprised you find them comfortable for that. Oh, and agreed - that square heel doesn't help. All around, though, with the limitations imposed by my gunboats, they've been pretty darn good.

That's another reason I choose to wear them - they look goofy as hell. Pretty disarming when a guy climbs out of a Porsche wearing Chucks - the "dick factor" seems to diminish for most people who see you, where "real" driving shoes seem to increase, or at least reafirm it for many. Kinda like driving gloves...

Just an old joke around here, Tom. Poor Scooter made the mistake of asking about driving gloves one day here on Pelican. Pretty straightforward question, really. So, in the finest Pelican tradition, the answers quickly devolved into questioning everything from his driving ability to his manhood to his sexual preferences. I'm sure he rued the day he ever asked.

I have a brand new set of Simpson shoes in black size 12. I bought them when racing karts and the rules said BOOTS. $40

I have a set of worn once Sparco boots in Black size 12, I left my race shoes at home once on a kart race weekend. ( Expensive weekend made more expensive) $100 I think that I paid $180? at the track.

I own two pairs of Puma Drift Cat shoes. They are among the most comfortable I have ever owned but must be purchased a size larger than average (in most cases).

edit: may be DC III; regardless, all true "driving inspired" Pumas I have tried on are comfortable- so long as they're not my size!
