Here's some eye candy to help you

What model magnifier and mount do you have? Did you have to adjust the eotech reticle to center it in the magnifier? Very nice BTW.

Here's what I built.

Lately though, I've had my eye on one of these.

No zombies in my world. They are home defenders that I do have fun shooting. I like to support the local guys like Aero Precision, Mega Machine & Olympic Arms. They are effective tools, now is a good time to add one to the tool box.

Some people use them for hunting. Some people use them for home defense (yes, .223 at least is good for that). Some people think the apocalypse is coming. Some people use them for competition and some people have them because they can (thankfully).

i picked mine up yesterday. i took it out today for more fun. i think i need to start reloading, for accuracy. turns out someone was shooting my target. no 2" group with the cheap as dirt ammo i am currently using for break-in purposes (see below).

cheers.

the spoon is all mil-spec, unless i am mistaken. the barrel is made by FN, double thickness chrome. frankly, i think this rifle is the biz.

i changed my mind from the S&W MP15 Sport for the following reasons:

1. Joe vetted palmetto armory. i really appreciated that conversation. thanks, joe.
2. the barrel is made by FN.
3. the rifle is mil-spec. interchanging/replacing parts will be a piece of cake.

Thanks Oldschooler. The magnifier is also an Eotech. I don't remember what the mount is. What I do like about the mount is it flips to the side. I'll look later. Once the reticle was centered it needed no further adjustment for the mag.

Accuracy can be very good with the right set up and good ammo. Black Hills 77 grain (Mk 262 ammo we use in the Army for certain applications) is very very good. A barrel chambered in .223 Wylde can make an AR a very accurate tool. I have seen 700 meter shots with the above set up (not me doing the shooting, Im not nearly that good of a shot) made by well trained individuals. The 77 grain ammo has very good balistic properties. The wound channel created by this round is amazing. You wouldnt believe that you were shooting a 5.56 mm round. No, it's not 7.62 but it does the job.

MILSPEC isnt the be-all end-all that it's cracked up to be. Ive seen plenty of parts fail over the last 23 years and all the parts I use at work are of course MILSPEC. When building an AR for myself I do use only MILSPEC or better bolt carrier groups. Daniel Defense and Bravo Company USA make very very good BCGs. You don't have to spend big money to make a quality AR unless you want to latest and best brand name parts.

I have several of each type, big brand names like POF, Noveski and Larue as well as cheap made from used parts guns. Just depends on what you want and what you plan to use the rifle for.

Matt
