A 308, I'd do the break in procedure with that. As to whether or not it works or what ever the debate is I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and do it.
|
New barrels have tooling marks in the bore and a break-in is required to get the smoothest possible bore for accuracy sake. Granted, this is a production barrel and may not have the tighter tolerances of a match barrel, but a break-in is really the way to go.
Like what was said, clean the bore after every 5 rounds until 50, then after every 10 rounds until 100. Use Sweets 7.62 to get every bit of copper fowling from the grooves/lands until the patch pushed through the bore comes out completely clean. And of course I assume you know to NEVER clean a rifle bore from the muzzle end but rather from the chamber end. Some rifles like the M1 and M1A you cannot do this, and there are guides offered for these rifles to minimize any damage to the crown. If you ding the crown during cleaning, it can cause accuracy to fall off. This product has worked great when I broke-in my match barrel on my competition AR. 308 FF Ammo - DTAC - FINAL FINISH by Superior Shooting Systems |

Star 9mm Para Model B with Waffenamt proof (WaA251).
The name of the officer it was issued to is written in the lid. As far as I can tell, unfired. I'm not a fan of Nazi **** but she is sweet. I have a Norwegian 1914 as well but not because the Nazis made it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391965104.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1391965155.jpg |
I'm pretty sure if you're going to own a German issue Star, you should also have the holster......

It started life as a Gewehr 98, was converted to a K98 at some point, and then re-barreled to 7.62 Nato by the Israelis. It has a mix of Imperial, pre Nazi German Nazi, and IDF marks. http://www.shedracing.net/imgmisc/danzig_small.jpg |

Kind of a sexy old Savage 1907 (Art Deco) in 380ACP. Rumor has it that Dillinger was carrying one of these when he was killed.

Mj and I have collected Art Deco for 30+ years. You don't see these pistol very much any more. Yeah bright chrome would be perfect. I'm heading over to the shop later to pick up the Mark X and the wood you sent.. NEW BENCH THREAD COMING SOON.

Little pearl handled guns as well as big thumpers seem to get the juices flowing. (maybe not as well as red boots) ;) 1908 380 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392216151.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392216185.jpg |
A reasonable theory Henry. Red boots? Some day I'll tell you a story about those red boots.

WOW! Are those really the right grips. I thought it came with the before grips. At any rate I like the grips marked Colt much better. Nice blue job. Very nice.

Gotta love those old Colts, Henry. Here's my taste in "old" Colts:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392265062.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392265086.jpg I've got to say, with a number of first, second, and third generation guns having passed through my hands over the years, these latest (since the merger back into one company, the management shakeup, and turning over the finish work to Doug Turnbull) Colts are the best I've ever handled. And they shoot, too. Best part is, I can sell one truly old Colt (that doesn't shoot very well) and have enough for several of these. Just don't tell anyone... |
