She has picked up the slack left by Little John...she gets reasonably good stuff and now gets good prices for it. Her descriptions are good. I have never had a problem with them and have bought a fair amount of stuff through them.

Notably in this auction of the stuff I book marked SW M 629 P&R 8 3/8 B went for 1700 wt buyer prem..about 2K. And a Colt 1911 pre 70 NM GC nib apx 4K...

JYL should be eating his hat..as to what the prices realized for that same spoon went for at REATA a coupla weeks ago.. I brought them to his attention.

Overall prices at Watson's auction were sizzling...

Nibbling my hat . . . but do I want to buy a unfired NIB pre 70 NM and then have it modified, railed, ride in a pistol box, shoot the crap out of it, and generally degrade its value by 50% or more? Not decided.

getting back into guns (had been out cause i got bored with it in 2007)
And found a brand new Dan Wesson PM7/45

Pretty good luck that is, My old one was xxxx417
This one is xxxx232 , only 185 apart..

Almost identical, This one has a black hammer, not stainless
also has Dan Wesson written on the rear sights, which the other one did not.
It feels just as tight as my previous one.. Cannot beat an early DW 1911, they are just rock solid (I assume the later ones are just as good)

And, luckily... I got it at same price as the first one, back in 2010.. which is awesome considering inflation and how the Dan Wessons have gotten more expensive over the years in the US.. and they get even more expensive when they get imported to Europe...

Bargain deal !

Filed the paperwork, now gotta wait for the permit.. unfortunately its not 3-4 days here, but 3-4 months is more typical.

This was my old onehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689958429.jpg

I have to look, still have that folding knife laying around somewhere.
Gonna be stylish again :P

Rick Lee 07-21-2023 09:01 AM

DW 1911s are the best bang for the buck out there. They were a better bang for the buck a few years ago, but they kind of got discovered and so they're getting more expensive. I really kick myself for letting go of the full size stainless Valor I had.

Rick Lee 07-21-2023 09:02 AM

BTW, here's my newest purchase. Gonna be a long wait on this paperwork.

Got one FreeBR F1 approved, still waiting on second one.

This one is "just" a 22 set up, but it is a standard lower so I can drop any upper onto it.

19.5" OAL, sights work well and give enough accuracy for squirrels to 50 yards. Unfortunately, now I'm thinking I need a can...or three.

He does, but he's kind of a long drive. Still waiting on the seller to get his Form 3 approved, should be today or Monday. Then ships.

This one is same price as it was in 2010
A Springfield Loaded goes for 500 eur more in Belgium.
a Ruger is 200 more

This one has been laying in the store since at least 2010..untouched...Same price.. no inflation...

nobody in Belgium has a clue about Dan Wesson guns..
This is my second one.. I sold the previous one in 2017 , but not making that mistake again, this one is for keeps

Rick Lee 07-21-2023 09:41 AM

If I ever come across another stainless Valor for the $1100 I paid about five yrs ago, I will pounce.

svandamme 07-21-2023 09:44 AM

out of the box slide to frame fit one these guns is second to none..
Run it wet with FP10.. It never dissapoints.

This horrible abomination of a "handgun" is reviewed in this month's American Rifleman. From Taurus, they call it the "Raging Hunter". Available in both .460 and .500 S&W. I just don't get it, I suppose.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689982827.jpg

This Interarms Virginian Dragoon in .44 Mag has been my main hunting handgun for my entire adult life, over 40 years and counting. Absolutely effective on everything I have ever pointed it at, up to the size of elk and caribou.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689983007.jpg

This one is a relative newcomer, only being in the rotation for about 30 years. Ruger Bisley in .45 Colt. Equally effective. It is a little less handy, though, with its 7 1/2" barrel. I much prefer the 6" on the Dragoon for portability.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689983007.jpg

I could not imagine lugging that Taurus around. One would have to use a sling, like a rifle. I actually have lighter hunting rifles, come to think of it. I just don't see the point.

svandamme 07-23-2023 10:16 PM

oddley enough, the one pace in the world where you can't shoot that Ruger Bisley... is in Bisley UK
UK:Handguns, not for peasants!
only exceptions , air, 22 match or black powder

Gonna meet up with a buddy that has a registered M16 this weekend perhaps, try running it on that. Have a feeling I'll need an anti-bounce weight or similar in it though...

I believe that that only applies to bursts from belt feds.

When used with a 20-35 round mag, the use of "Get Some!" requires a full mag dump

:D

Rick Lee 07-28-2023 06:02 PM

I was only loading 30 rds into a mag before I realized they take 36. But damn, I was tired of loading those mags. And my right thumb was beat to hell. When I finally get that MG-42, I'm going to have to buy the hand crank tool for loading the belts.

If you want your buddies to shoot it, make them load their mags.

If you want to shoot it just a little, take a loaded mag to range and reload at range, get one of the basic tools that gives a nice big flat to push down on and provides a mechanical thumb.

If you want to shoot it a lot, load up 15-20 mags over the course of a week one or two per night while drinking a beer. Show up to range, 15+ loaded, no waiting to load etc just rock-n-roll as you will.

Son and I got out with the shorty 22 again.... giggle inducing.

My permit arrived.. Brand new Dan Wesson, it was in the store since 2010 something.
I had bought its brother, sold its brother, and now it was still there at the old price.

Rugers or S&W 1911 was higher price than this DW which really is a better 1911 in all respects.. Go Figure, folks in Belgium have no idea apparantly how good DW 1911's are
Good for me :D

Like its brother out of the box its so tight it barely cycles.
took it a part a few times.. lubed it up with FP10 and took it to the range.. And its starting to loosen up a bit

Very happy, love the feel of a 1911 , the schlack as the slide closes ..
Trigger is great, Shoots great feels great.. I am whole a gain :D

Congrats, Stijn! Beautiful example of the 1911.

dmcummins 09-14-2023 12:39 PM

Nothing fancy, but I’ve been wanting one of these for quite a while. It’s a browning, model 12 copy in 28 guage. I have model 12’s in 20,16, and 12 guage, along with a model 42 in 410. But never came across one in 28 guage, and if I did I wouldn’t pay the price for a original.

So this one’s a shooter, I’ve done pretty well with it in sporting clay, sub guage, fun shoots.

Rick Lee 09-14-2023 01:56 PM

Dan Wesson is the best bang for the buck 1911 on the market. They're probably a lot more expensive in Europe and they used to be a lot cheaper in the US than they are now. I so miss my Valor and am kicking myself for the trade I made with it.
