Bottom to top, east, west routes now all connecting. Mid-state can be a drag and in the open areas, the wind never stops. One of the earliest adopters of the rail to trail conversions but also beautiful maintained. One could escape downtown Chicago by bike, take your choice of bike routes and trails heading west towards Freeport. Take the Jane Addams trail north into Wis. and you enter smack into a network of the most beautiful cycle riding in the country. (Wis. has a nominal trail use fee.) The gravel and limestone routes are fun, especially the winding ones near rivers, canals. Other than trails near college towns, there's no glass or char. Tire flats are rare today and no need for heavy grade tire / sealants. Going late next week for an excursion riding vintage (light pack, no camping) and then another tour w/ panniers - camping. IL: Illinois Bike Paths and Maps WI: Wisconsin bicycle maps - Wisconsin Department of Transportation Maybe sometime get a few fellow Pelicans together, shove the bikes in the 911's and parade out for a ride. Two-day? |

^ Kind of like the Ti frames - Schwinn Paramount a year or so before the bankruptcy. That's right... Schwinn Paramount titanium bikes. Made by Serrotta! You can do the goog- research on them and the story but when they finally became available (by Schwinns fault, a year late) these bikes were sold for cheeeeeap!

Saw today that Contador (not that I like him particularly) has crashed, broken his tibia, got back on the replacement bike (seems he broke his in the crash) for another 20 minutes before deciding the pain was too much.
A pro soccer player in Brazil would have been carried out on a stretcher with so much as a broken thumbnail.... |
No spoilers!!!

My unofficial cycling coach was a huge fan of their framesets. He would have a frame built up every couple of years to his exacting and always changing specifications. He passed a couple of years ago and it is always a joy to see a Roberts framed bike as it reminds me of him. Thanks! |
