Tough to beat those prices. Cheesy?... depends on the bike its going on. These days and when you look at late 1980's, early 1990's bikes with pink, purples, lime green... fruit loops, Wonder Bread graphics.. hmmm. How's it going to look in a few years?

More on wheels- last night hub rebuilds. Found some shiney NOS early Weinmann 700C alloy hoops to convert these from the 26". Planning on lacing with DT Swiss - 3X. Think black spokes would spoil the look? Everything else is 1950's period.

I think silver color double-butted spokes might be cool....

edit - TRIPLE butted! Just read your post...

Well, I have a lo of parts.....some nice 32 Chorus hubs that I would like to have laced up.

Since I like to repurpose/reuse parts.....I also have the used spokes and nipples that look in good shape.

They came with Mavic Open Pro, tubular rims. One would assume a set of clinchers in the model would lace right up.

If me, would use those hubs, source out whatever clincher you want. The spokes may or may not work because of the length difference or lace pattern. One thing with older hubs is the alloy may not have the strength for high tension spoke load. So if you get wild with a radial lace up front or combo radial / X in the rear, keep that in mind. The new hub shells today are amazing to take the nominal number of spokes and high load.

Also, there's a market for used spokes especially Wheelsmith and DT.

Edit.....the SPOKES......What maker's mark is a parallelogram or some sort? Even with a mag glass it's hard to make out. They are about 300mm.

Not sure but guessing could be Mavic. They used to have a reg. mark with MAVIC inside.

The 300 length could work with many low flange and non-deep 700C rim. If not butted, some might take the time to clip and thread if a bit long. Much depends how much time to fuss with them.
