This was the raciest bike in its day, even now it oozes speed.

the black guy, 2nd on the grid.....wasn't he the schizzle for many years? Can't remember his name.
Doh!....Marshall Taylor? |
major tyler, but I don't know if that's him or not
|
I think it was Major Taylor. I've been to the wooden velodrome in Indianapolis dedicated to him.

Im building a side by side tandem. Should be fun. Now all I need is a busty las to help pedal it

ill make my own brackets and probrobly use lawn mower tie rods setup like the old pic for the steering. Im not sure what you mean about the seat stays but I will post pics as it progresses. I have the rear end all planned out it should go pretty smoothly
|
^Interesting pic. I've seen it before but because was distracted by the lady, never studied the bike. Believe it was probably taken in Australia, for the brand Malvern Star. Possible prototype.
Structural looks freakish weak. Truss like but both sides are mixte and has a center reinforcement. The fork crown and headset looked cobbled. Probably had issues. Other: Rims are like the old 28" Raleigh type, Westwood's perhaps but brakes are not the rod type actuation. Odd stuff. |
Cool I didnt notice the brand on it. Im going to run an angled bar from each seat post down to the wheel so It should be strong enough there. If not ill add a bar connecting the seat posts like they did. My main concern with strength is the forks. If I dont have a beefy set ill probrobly add a truss to it.

how many front wheel(s) are you planning? Seat stay is the piece of metal that connect the back of the frame near the back of the eat to the center of the wheel.
How would make sure the alinement is correct or it tracks true? |
yup Im going to use 2 small bars like a normal bike has but the outside one will come straight back to support the sprocket and the other will come down at an angle twords the center to support the wheel. Just one front and rear wheel. Im not going to any great lengths to make sure things are perfect. Mostly by eye and some measuring. Iv built enough stuff from scratch to get things close enough. I had to cut and splice both frames already because they were two different size bikes. So that was like trying to build a straight house on a crookid foundation. But itll be all right in the end

I just received this one from a childhood friends father... I have great memories of this as a kid.. although it was in much better shape.. He gave it to me as he said no one would fix it up and take better care of it than me. Classic 531 tubes.. still a looker even as it sits...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436294208.jpg

(ps. How about some better pics of that ride?) |
My old ride, one I hit the pavement with. It survived. I had to heal. LeMond Zurich CF with full Campy. You've seen it before.
First day, I b sore, thank God for Alleve. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436569862.jpg |
back in the saddle. J B
nice. |
Regards to LeMond, I recently acquired one of his early signature framesets. Made in Italy by Billato. Columbus SL. This is a small frame so its going to be built for one of the g-daughters. I finished the Motobecane tribute Ocana / faux BiC for the other kid so now the LeMond will be done up as another tribute and in team Z livery. Have yet to set a budget but hoping at least some Campy stuff, maybe Scott drop-in bar another $50 for decals. If the kids really take to the retro thing, next will be a vintage Merckx. Fun stuff and looking forward to dicing with these kids -lol

Took the Blur out for a shakedown ride after re cabling and new chain. Still having a problem dropping to the granny gear need to look at that again. Fun bike to ride.... Anyone here know this guy? http://hippietechsuspension.com/ I bought a Trek 3700 in excellent condition but the fork on it is a piece of crap. RST 80mm travel and looking to get it off the bike and replace it with something better and lighter. V brakes. The hippy tech guy seems to have some interesting nos stuff that isn't too pricey. |
