Built up a few Cheap Chinese Carbon frames in the last couple of years...
Been riding this one, put about 600 miles since MAR 2019: https://i.imgur.com/Ro0wc5v.jpg Previous build was too small on the frame, sold it to a neighbor who wanted a cheap carbon bike: https://i.imgur.com/YxXX1Uy.jpg Current project for TT frame, trying out some new wireless shifting components, due to the complex internal cable routing among the handlebars/stem/headtube of the frame: https://i.imgur.com/nuTOKnm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uvdONpi.jpg Larger frame size of the previous build is also in the works, internal cable routing is PITA: https://i.imgur.com/B4pjqzS.jpg |

What are the details on those frames? Look pretty aero. Interested in where weight and where you sourced them. Cheers |

I usually accumulate a decent rebate on eBay every quarter to get a good discount on the purchase of these frames. My bicycle racing days are mostly gone, not putting out nearly as much power from my legs to need a bike that gets constantly abused with race efforts. These frames has been holding up well, comfortable ride for longer rides (40-50 miles), and stiff enough to climb up steep hills in my area (12-16% gradient). I run 700x25c tires on them, along with the Chinese carbon wheels help with comfort level. I haven't weigh them specifically, but they are lighter than my 19 year-old Litespeed (sub 19 lb.) that I have put over 72k miles on. https://i.imgur.com/x5BlAzQ.jpg Similar frames are plenty on eBay, just need to know what you are looking for. Currently I can only find this listing on eBay for the frame that I ride: |

My 1985 Schwinn Cimarron MTB/Touring project is now underway. Spent the last month fitting trinkets for touring and trying to match color. Recovered seat with new leather. All sorts of new bearings /spokes/ brakes/ fenders/ and such. Even got some leather fender splash guards (not pictured). All the bling. New Ortlieb front panniers. New surly front rack. Geometry so silly, only a middle aged old fart could love.
Just came back from the welder with some frame repairs and new water bottle mounts/mid fork carrier mounts. Usually I'd braze it myself, but no access to torch. Takes a lot of faith to hand something like this off to a stranger, but turned out o.k. Now to the backyard for complete sandblast / finishing/ and paint! (Still need sticker source.. arghh!!!) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1569933391.jpg Three different shades of green trying to match original (hard to see in pic) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1569933391.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1569933391.jpg |

kind of heavy at Approximate Weight 12.8kg listed
the last bmx racer I sold was about 12 lbs [little kids but full 20''] and my 26'' mtb g fisher alloy weight is 25 lbs with a rockshock [judy] |
A guy I know gave me his old Trek 1100 frame; Total cost less than fifty bucks; I dug around the bins for enough parts to make a single speed that I now call 'Ol' 2640' because it's perfect to ride the half mile to work (in any weather) and leave it chained outside all day (in any weather).

Got my Schwinn painted. All I need is a mustache handlebar, some goodwill clothing, gourmet coffee, and damnit, I will be a gentrified hipster! :)
GET OUT AND TOUR!!!!!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1572210722.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1572210722.jpg |
It looks awesome!
Maybe Joe Bob could recreate some of the original stickers? Looks like a lot of water weight there! |

JB's got the vinyl stickers. These Scwhinn stickers were originally a waterset sticker. There is a guy on ebay who repro's the waterset stickers and he has "claimed" he will have a new run on these later in the year, but who knows. If ebay guy doesn't pull through, I'm going to hit JB up next year! At very least, it would save me from having to wetsand the green, and respraying the clear coat if the waterset don't work out. |
Oh yeah- I forgot to post my obligatory MW pic of everything all layed out!:D

Nice build, Leaky. Very hipster indeed. Like you said, a tweed jacket and a flat cap and you are back in merry olde England riding hither and yon across the eard...

Here's a pic I found perusing the web. I could scrounge up more. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1572222153.jpg Another unrelated (but cool) thing about touring bikes is all the bags and stuff. It's fun making something where the typical weight weenie rules get thrown out the window. There are custom makers out there making pure artwork in this category of bike. Cool stuff.
