Dug through my shop hunting down old tools for Masraum and found these in a box. I am putting them on the Merlin and ride that for a bit of old time fun. I am afraid to use that 1" Dura-Ace head set. It is brand new and those are extremely difficult to find new. I am thinking what the hell, why not? I bought it for ME.
That's Cinelli Ti stem and a couple of King Ti cages |

Wow... Nice stuff. I hope that Titanium frame is getting some use.

Its been hung on the garage rafter for a long time. I just wipe off the dust over the weekend after my discovery of the treasure in that old box. It will get some use. Been riding my C40 Colnago in the past three rides. Man, I tell ya, those old guys know how to build a comfortable bicycle. Plenty responsive for this old dude. A little flexy compare to the Time, but I love the feel of the tiny bit of spring back from the BB.

The levers got grounded down by the street from a crash on the old bar. Thanks goodness the ones on the Merlin are in great shape. I am falling in love with these old bikes again. Now, I just need to get off my ass and paint the Reynolds 853 steel frame. Must get decals made. I am going to paint this dang thing myself and see how much I will screw it up.
I see your many posts with a bunch of steel frames with the latest group sets. They actually look great and noticed a bunch of custom made parts to go with it. I am debating if I should jsut use my old period correct stuff or install electronic Shimano 11 spd. Trouble is, it isn't clean with wires taped to a frame. These are all about looks, ride quality is secondary. Modern bikes are made for that just like water cool cars. Drive the air cools to have an early morning coffee with the old farts and have a laugh. Drive home. Last edited by look 171; 03-22-2021 at 09:39 PM.. |

Stumbled across this today. Not so much a bike, but a bike part, which I wish I had one more than one occasion.
Let's you mount v-brakes or canti's to frames without the bosses. Great for 26inch to 700c gravel conversions, or low budget road frame- gravel conversion projects. Most important of all, cool colors. https://porkchopbmx.com/evolution-v-brake-bicycle-aluminum-mounts-clamps-adapters-pair-blue/ ![]() |

I'm amazed at what the going rate is for decent used 1 in headsets and other vintage parts. I'm doing a Poghliaghi resto at the moment, as my first nice bike was a Basso era Pog. Given up on finding mid 80's Record components at a reasonable price, so using a mishmash of Campy stuff. At least it'll be downtube.

@Bryon- cool frame. Love the seatstay gusset.
@171- That merlin reminds me almost EXACTLY of a friend's old and sold merlin. Looks like his old bike. Same white fizik, same cranks, same stem, etc. His was a 54/56 custom frame with a 54 seat tube and 56 toptube length. He sold it on ebay after riding it about 40-50k at least miles, and I always wondered how many more pedal strokes that titanium could go. You didn't pick that up off ebay did you? ![]() |

Ha, 54 seat tube is bit on big size. I like smaller frames, because they are quicker. I am a 52/3 C to C. That's stem will soon be changed to a Cinelli. This one with the new DA head set. Puttin' it back they way it was.

Byron, I’ve never seen that frame, what year is it? I remember drooling over the Nomura frame in the early 80’s but this looks even better

Is this a good bike? Worth anything? Bought it used from a bike shop when my kids were little. Guys told me its a vintage freestyle bike. Something about the crank and the wheels are what restoration BMX guys want. He rode it mo more then 10 times and moved on to a geared bike.

One of yours? That's clever, love the tri-color spacers.
Hey, I have a set of those Cosmics on my Ridley. My kid is riding them now. I saw a Motta tri-colored frame way back in the mid 80s hanging off the ceiling off one of the large pro shops in LA. I couldn't stop drooling it was so pretty. I wanted one since. |

Not mine... That photo is from a Facebook group page.
This made its way to my house recently. (I may have posted this in my Italian Tools thread) An Army buddy of mine knew I was into older bikes so he gave it to me. ![]()

A DK, they, like Schwinn use to be, have several ranges, but for just playing around and seeing if He likes BMX it is a good starting point.
