That is not an attractive groupset. Late to the party and expensive. Still, I'm sure there will be plenty of fans that can't wait to have one.
|
Just like very other group set out there, black. Well, carbon but I am OK with its looks. Unlike the glory days past, shiny, polished alum or Ti. I don't think its butt ugly but I'm sure its more money then DuraAce which I rather have. I ride SRAM Red wireless now and it works very well but I hate the feel of the lever. My kid has Ultegra and it is flawless including the feel.

It just looks huge on the bike.
I saw a pricetag of 5500, so a couple thousand more than Sh or Sr. Maybe there will be discounts. It doesn't matter, not for me. |
Campy and I got a divorce when they came out with the index lever shifting. I paid my entire savings for it and it didn't work. Bought DA 8 spd and it was flawless. No more for me but I am now a closet Campy lover. I still love the looks of the old Super Record. AFter riding modern levers for over 25 -30 years, I grabbed hold of the old levers and noticed how awful they felt in my hands

Look at the legs! 🦵💪Christchurch, New Zealand, circa 1913. "Jack Suckling (center right with watch chain) and cyclists outside Speedy Cycle Works, Manchester Street. Champion cyclist Phil O'Shea is third from right." Photo by Adam Maclay http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1685619922.jpg |

I still haven't seen Slaying The Badger yet. Were you able to get European cycling new within a week or two after their racing back in those days in OZ? We had to go to the LA downtown central library to wait for La Gazzetta Dello Sports which was always about 3-4 weeks late to get news on the spring classics or wait for Velonews also a month late. None of us read Italian but was able to see some names. This was mid 80s. |
It was much the same here Champ. If it didn't make the nightly news service, the only cycling news I could get was from Bicycling Magazine, US version. The Australian version hadn't been created yet.

I also subscribed to this one and it took about 3 weeks for it to arrive in Aus.
- and so began my fetish for Italian steel bicycles. ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1685674689.jpg |

I remember that issue. I use to be an Italian bike snob too only that I can't afford Campy SR and raced with Suntour. Until I has a summer job working for a bike shop, my world opened up so I started chasing uber light Italian parts like OMAS headsets and ti BB. I am still a European bike snob to some extend but discovered the little differences between carbon frames but the name on the downtube. I don't think I like a Pinarello. I still only like Itlian steel frames even though some of the domestic builders build better frames then the current or traditional Italian builders. Rossin, DeRoas, or ... I do not like a Pegroetti |
Made for an MTB by Black Cat, Aptos, CA.
(and yes it would be great on a road or gravel bike! :)) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1685920905.jpg |
COTA does a few bike around the track days a year on Tuesday nights. I finally talked myself into giving it a try yesterday even though it was 96° at 6pm. It was really cool. So cool in fact that the temperature was less of an issue than I expected. The turn one climb is about as bad as I thought it would be. I was using 1st gear which for me is 34/25 and was having to stand up near the top. Down hill into turn 2 was the fastest place on the track on the bike and down hill into turn 11 was second fastest.
I'm planning to finally get the Cayman to COTA in September so it was good to finally get on this track and doing it on a bike really gives you a feel for how tight or open the turns are. Turn 12 is the tightest. About a 1/3 way down the back straight is a sign that reads, "MOTOGP BIKES ARE GOING 218 MPH HERE" http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1686773147.jpg |
