I tried a Domane which road great and handled good but it wasn't a sharp as a Madone so I got the Madone. Granted I don't have many hills or rough roads to deal with. I'll hold off on the Roubaix/Domane type bike until I'm a bit older. |
for me the Roubaix is all about fit. less drop.
it DEFINITELY rides smoother than the Tarmac but some (a lot?) of that can be fixed with a 25mm tire on the Tarmac. I would imagine the Venge is not about smoothness. Would be fun to spend some hours on either but I wouldn't even give it a thought unless I could put 25mm GP4000's or the 26mm Spec. tires on it. doing intervals, sprints, pulling I don't feel i'm giving anything up to get the comfort. the bike feels flat out fast with no much at all in the pedal stroke. again I have the previous style (SL4) so there could be differences in stiffness. I have read some claim the new Roubaix was softened a bit in the frame (in addition to the front spring setup). |

Question on chains? I am out of the loop on the latest and greatest so why are some chain so much more then others. I always bought Dura-Ace chain and nothing else. Now, I am not sure if DA is best? Just because it cost a lot of money, it doesn't always mean its best. Its time to replace all the chains by the end of this year. Suggestions? Oh, I am running Shimano DA 10 spd and one bike I run SARM. I think Shimano should run quieter, so I hear?
|
Wippermann still the best. quiet, light, super smooth...pricey.

Looks like Shimano chain this time around again. Tell me about the Whippermann? Are they lighter, and if so, by lots? Since I am out of the loop, any model suggestions?

Finishing the build on this for my brother for Christmas....one of LeBron James extra frames that i was able to buy while I was with Cannondale. American made 29'er, 26" seat tube! Custom carbon Lefty w/remote lock out. Part of the serial number stamped on the bottom bracket "NBA29 XXL" I even got to pick color, frame was raw hanging on the wall. It will be the first time my brother will be able to ride a bike that fits him...he's 6'10".http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1479418640.jpg

(btw cool video Wayner...) WARNING-Long post-(digesting Turkeyday food) ahead: I'm a fan of 90's mtb stuff myself. Just redid front end in gaudy annondized colors! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480077925.jpg Also got new front Suntour fork recently for my gravel road frankenbike (Quality 700c hybrid fork choices are slim.) It advertised 63mm. It only gave 50mm travel tops. After removing all the dampers and stops on the inside, and using only the coil spring, it now gives 75mm travel and works like a dream! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480078851.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480078863.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480079192.jpg |

While I was picking up the retro 26" Haro Master at Planet BMX today they made me an deal for a 24" Skyway TA frame set that I will build up for the track. My aluminum GHP rides great, but I jus5 don't trust it under me, plus they are no longer our frame sponsor. I was planning on getting a modern Hutch 24, but the deal on this F&F was too good to pass up and I liked mine from BITD.
Have most of the bits for the Skyway, but could use a set of Red Paul's brakes and lever to make sure that I can stop :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480449279.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480449279.jpg |
