Heres the elevation on COTA. Looks like a little bit of 12 or 13% on the big climb.

Today's project- redo frankenbike:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687724033.jpg
It came from a trash can 25 years ago, and has been a favorite ever since. Lots of rust and things on the "to do" list. Disassembled, sandblasted, mounted water bottle cages, and converted the rear brake bosses from 26 inch to 700c. I got good alignment, and then proceeded to run out of acetylene remounting the rack bosses. This area has a lot going on with the rack, fenders, and brakes. Tricky real estate, but I think I got it figured out. Next step- find a welding gas store. Good progress for a day though! Lot's of corrosion- http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687724265.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687724265.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687724265.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687724265.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687724265.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687724265.JPG vvv-The repositioned brake bosses turned out nice. I just melted the old ones off and "walked" them up the frame. I went heavy on the brazing on purpose because they are brakes, but the joints cleaned right up. I was so close to brazing the other rack mount and then acetylene went kaput! Arghhh!!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687724265.JPG |
"Nicely Done" Leaky ;)

^ That's simply gorgeous!
I'd be like a kid in a candy store with a velo orange or RH gift card! :) It was also interesting watching his brazing technique. He's got a pretty coarse flame and heats the whole thing. My tip (a hand me over oxy/acetylene from a brother in law) is a smaller/ hotter tip, so it's more intense pinpoint heating than what he does. I'm working it around like a spider laying a web. He's soaking in a more generalized heat and letting it flow. Interesting. edit- of course I flip the thread page with an ^ intro :) |

My late friend, Peter Johnson, did all the metal work and I did the paint. We did all this as teenagers. Pete carried on for his whole life. I “sold out” and went corporate :). I told Pete 20 years ago that I needed a 10-speed (road bike) and he said “get a dela Santa and I did - custom in ‘60’s team colors. I need to start riding again. |

My son bought a Bianchi trail bike... He's moved out and left it behind. Much better than the Raleigh.
