Is "Rollie" going on STP?

I'm not sure. He is used to his little Peugeot and quite attached to it, he'd like to take "Leo" (lion badge) on STP. And we know Leo is dependable. OTOH he's noting a little bit of knee soreness, which may be related to Leo being too small.

If we take Rollie for a couple rides this weekend and next week, we should be able to get the bugs out. I rode it to Velocult for the TdF and eveything was fine. I'll still feel like I have to carry more tools/spares than if we took Leo.

STP might not be the best ride for my son to get used to clipless pedals, though of course I could put regular pedals and clips on.

Does anyone build wheels? I have a pair of 32 hole campy hubs that need a modern set of machined brake surface clincher rims. Put them in my truing stand......the tubular rims ended up being FUBAR'd.

What kind of Campy hubs - group, era, freewheel or cassette, spacing, matching skewers, condition?

Guessing late 80s Chorus based on the freewheel, 8 speed 11/19, matching skewers. Why? looking to buy?

Go to a good bike shop.

The local pro shop...high end crap doan stink techies...$550.

Bladed spokes, rims and labor....2 week turn around with a reacj around. NAHHH!!!!!

Have a few other RFQs out.

How far out are the wheels? I've seen some looking near gone but if the nipples can be turned free, back them out and redo- amazing they can come back. Especially for tubular rims.

You set-up with a wheel stand? Old fork inverted rig, etc...

The rear wheel looks to have had an impact. Drive side 1/8 inch in, 6 inches later, dish in same same.

Total toast.

I build wheels. Just a hobby but they stay true with even tensions (I use a tension meter). If you have a truing stand, give it a try. Not a hard thing to do.

As I mentioned....I want to convert to bladed spokes and clinchers FROM old school tubulars using the same vintage hubs.

I may not be concour weenie on my P-Car, but on bikes....I like the old crap.

What kind of bladed spokes will fit those hubs? You have a source for Hoshi spokes (do tell . . . )?

Edit - oh, I see, you're thinking the DT Swiss or Sapim bladed spokes for $4/each? Crazy man.

Maybe swap or sell the front, get a 28 hole F hub. Then build up a 28H F 32H R with butted round spokes at $1.30/ea. Put some of the money saved into a more aero rim.

Anyone use Vittoria Pit Stop sealant/inflator? I have a bike w/ Vittoria Rally tubulars (non-removable core). Will this stuff work for most punctures? I carry a spare tub but would like some extra reassurance when I'm 200 miles from home.

Joe Bob. An old racing buddy, a bike bum now and still racing and winning, works for IRC or was it IRT (wheel company)? He has built LOT of wheels over the years. If you are not in a hurry, I can pass on his number and you guys can talk. Only problem is, he's in LA. Do those youngsters know how to build wheels anymore? I walked into a high pretty high end shop with a friend who needed to have a set of wheels build for their tour around the western states. I recommended that they build a 4 cross inside pull wheel for comfort and durability. The young man look at me like a deer in the head light and said "what?"

I have had wheels so far out of dish that is looked like a potato chip. Take out the spokes and push on it against something so it straighten itself some. Lace it up and use the spokes to pull it back round. It will go for another season of hard riding. Spokes break, but rims and hubs are pretty strong. Personally, I rather have a laced up wheel with light weight double butted spokes then bladed spokes. The lightness out weights aerodynamics in this situation. I think "aero" do not come into play on wheels until you are up past 18 or 19 mph. A light wheel is more fun when you jump on it. Light like an early 911.

Mavic Open Pros are the way to go. I can't beak em and I don't go around pot holes. 32holes is more then enough.
