Picked it up today....
I am stoked, the guy says his Mother bought for him in 1974 when he was 14, raced at the same track I was racing, bought from the shop, Pedal Pushers, I use to drool over them (and about 10 years ago, bought the last 2 the shop owner, Ron McVay (some of you roadies from the 70s may recognize that shop, as he bought Campy stuff by the container load and sold tons of it) for a buddy of mine in TX that wanted to rebuild his childhood bike. I met him at his Mothers, he said he when he turned 16, he put the bike in the shed since he had his drivers license and literally forgot about it until he was putting a new roof on the shed & found the bike and his Logan Earth Ski skateboard (I may score that as well) since I had one built up just like the one he has.. A true survivor.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755429.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755446.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755174.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755193.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755211.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755233.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755251.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755270.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755297.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382755487.jpg |
Great score! Build a ramp and jump the shark already!

Byron- Neat find and from an original owner too! What's your opinion on restoring or leave as is for BMX collectable's?
It seems only a decade ago restoring a classic or considered rare road bike was routine. Now for the rarest road bikes leaving rust, paint chips and scratches are worth far more. There's a fellow near me with some incredible late 40's and 50's classic racers, most repainted and restored. Gorgeous machines. He's always listing them but rarely see any takers. On occasion I'll see another's listing and sale for more money- same era, components, but in worse to average condition. |

While the Dan -Gurney Mono-Shock represents the 1st of their BMX products, this one represents the last:D Quote:

Hey Byron,
You have a huge collection of bikes. Where do you store all that stuff. They all look like you ride them and are not all in pristine condition. Museum sometime coming up? I know a local guy that's been thinking about an old road bike museum. He has a lot of stuff. |
The All American BMX / Gurney and the thread on Carroll Shelby made me think of this Felt

Yes sir, I only have a few that aren't really riders, I prefer a bike that has enjoyed life, has a story over one that sits under glass.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1383254923.jpg |
Saw this on another thread...it belongs here for posterity sake:
