I feel like I sold a piece of myself today.
Right out of college I worked two summers in a bike shop. While I was there, I bought this Japanese Raleigh frame. Built it up with parts from the shop, originally with sew-ups rims I laced myself, but eventually I replaced them with a pair of Nashbar wheels. I've had that bike about 30 years. Probably haven't ridden it in 20. The guy who bought it aired up the tires and I think he rode it home. Maybe I should have warned him about the 20 year old tires. The occasion was a fund raiser for my former middle school after school bike program. I brought 5 bikes, sold 2, avoided buying another one. I suppose I'll try craigslist again for the other 3. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1488688811.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1488688811.jpg |

I read recently of how cycling is one of the very best for the heart. Though of course with caveat. Now for that Atala. Way, way cool! Definitely in the upper echelon of classics. Wishing you many safe and happy miles ahead- :) |
Thanks Intake!
I ran or walked at least 1 mile everyday in February and spent some time on my trainer! That was HUGE but with the weather breaking....these walls were one of my inspirations!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1490214370.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1490214401.jpg |
^Very nice! Whats that old red lugged aluminum bike in the lower pic, left side? Is that a Vitus or perhaps Alan?
--- Also, quite a hoot to see the blue Schwinn Racer 'Delux' 3 speed. I'll have to post a picture later but last year I found a freebie '66 complete with paperboy front basket. Same size frame as your blue one. Complete but needed a full overhaul and lots of love. Anyways, I decided not to spend time or money into it, stripped it down and boxed for future most of the parts. Mildly cold set the frame and forged fork to fit wider modern sealed bearing hubs and a bonus the frame accepted 700 x 28c without any issue. Went fixed gear and retained only the front brake. To compromise in my physic to fit the smaller frame, I found a taller post and longer stem to fit the odd Schwinn tube diameters. Weight not exactly light but acceptable now at 26 lbs. lol The entire concept of a junked heavy steel Schwinn with steel parts has proved its worth. Even with the single piece Ashtabula crank. Its shorter and for a fixed gear in cornering has its merit. Its been a blast riding thru the Winter season, road salt, gravel paths and with no concerns of leaving it outside or theft. edit: the beater Schwine fixie https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/764/33...a85f3723_z.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2071/3...cee43c0e_z.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2705/3...cb3e8688_z.jpg |
Great eye! Vitus w/Campy C-Record and Delta brakes!
It's funny that you mention the Schwinns! I bought them for my wife and I just before my "episode" as Christmas presents. We live down by the water with some nice places to grab a bite during the summer. These bikes cleaned up great and we don't have to put shoes on or keep the eagle eye on them.....perfect for jumpin' on and cruising the neighborhood! NRD |

Byron, I've got a line on a 1985 Kuwahara Bravo looks to be in ok - good condition, looks to all be original and complete looks like it has not been ridden in years and years. White with Green stickers, spoke wheels. Any idea on a fair price. I know its hard with out Pictures.
