I did some repairs and tuning on a neighbor's recumbent (Greenspeed GT3) a few weeks ago. Never rode one before so I took it out for a shakedown run. Yikes. No thank you. I'll stick to conventional bikes.

Going to get the Alpineer out of 4 years storage and back into the rotation soon.

Love that. Looking forward to seeing the build.

I recently found an NOS Campagnolo Record crank for my 1999 Bianchi. I've been slowly upgrading it from a mix of Avanti, Veloce, etc. to all Record. This stuff is jewelry. Sort of the last of the breed before everyone went carbon.

Wife & I have been riding recumbents since 2004, we used to take our recumbents down to OBX in the summer for long (60+ miles) rides along the beach.

Can't beat the comfort of large seating area & relief of perched handlebar position

Just look at that grin:

I've converted my $400 Vison R40 with a hardshell seat, for more support..

Anybody own or ridden a performance hydrobike? Have always wanted one and am finally seriously considering one. Good ones start at $5000 .... but I guess good road bikes do as well.

Search "Gates Carbon Drive".

A lot of people swear by them but you need a frame that can open up at the dropouts so you can change belts.

7 speed shimano/alfine gearset. Disc brakes.
Just thumb the shifter up or down while moving or stopped.
No oily chain to deal with.

And of course...it has the frame drop-out for changing the belt. (the only time it's ever needed)
Rear tire changes don't need the drop-out.

In the second pic...the nut shown on the frame just above the belt, is the drop-out.
Just remove the nut and the frame spreads open to get the belt out.

^^^ Thanks..I'm really happy with the bike.
I've had it for 4 years now and only had to replace the belt once and the tires a couple times.

Some say it takes more power to drive a belt bike...I disagree.
With cat-eyes on both this one and my 24 speed chain bikes...no diff in speed when riding.

And..yes..it is a Gates Carbon Drive.

Merry Christmas to me!

Was searching the Campy website a couple weeks ago and spotted their e-store and after several failed attempts to use PayPal and a text from my CC company I was able to place an order.

All of it made in Italy- hope the clock isn’t metric!

Very cool. I found out another friend who has Alzheimer's, is getting worse, he had a few really cool bikes, that i posted here before. While he talked about selling them in the past, he never really acted like he wanted to sell, but I can check with his wife if anyone is interested

That bike has the 50th Campy and I’m sure you know that it is very valuable, but just thought I would mention it so your friend or his wife doesn’t get taken advantage of.

Not only that, but it is a 50th Anniversary Schwinn Paramount. Actually, he has 2 50th Anniversary Paramounts, he was also crew chief for Brumos when they won the Super Cup championship, as well as I think, crew chief of the year.
But thanks

Hi Byron,

I figured you knew- I bet you’ve forgotten more about bike stuff than I have ever known!

I thought that those looked like Paramounts- super cool.

I was a teenager when the 50th came out and drooled over a set in the showcase of my favorite bike shop. Fast forward and I was looking forward to a 75th anniversary set and nope, they just put out a nice book and then made an 80th that wasn’t much different than the normal stuff, so I passed.

Take care and best wishes to your friend,
Rutager

Thanks for posting those photos Byron... That classic is just super.

I'd ride that just the way it is.

And something a bit special for Byron. (from the same collection)
I don't know much about these type of bike but my friend said this one is worth about $12,000 USD.
