And yes at time when riding with much younger people I feel old. The hills have been killing me lately. I need to drop another 10 pounds but I like eating. ... However I have lots of younger people who bring their bikes to me for service. Most of them can't repair a flat on the side of the road.

That's true. Lots of people riding today. Back in the day a lot of women that rode were Bi or Lesbians and looked like it just quietly. (Insert Seinfeld quote: "Not that there's anything wrong with that")

There's also a world wide shortage of parts right now that's only getting worse. I tried to order an SRAM 11 speed chain recently and the web site told be I'd have to wait 18 months! The local bike shops didn't have any so instead I used a Campagnolo 12 speed chain I had spare and it worked perfectly. The customer is also very happy.

Yeah, where are they? Sitting on a cargo ship parked somewhere? Why are you experiencing shortage? I blame our dumb gov, but yours too?

I didn't think they were butch chicks riding back then, just not too attractive unlike ones today. I hung around the track for a few years, (raced for only two and discovered I suck at it and too small) there were a bunch of girls racing but they were all just not too good looking. Maybe I was younger, most that raced were in their 30s or older?

wait, so you do this for people? Like a small business or just something you do on the side to keep you outta trouble?

Yeah, I like to eat too. Can't seem to stay away from anything with carbs. Damn rice, noodles, bread, potato all are so good. Isn't there's a 12 step program on eating? I gained 12 lbs during covid from eating pizza and such junks because kids like it for lunch and I was aound. I put a stop to that a couple months ago, started riding again. Lost 10 lbs and now, I can't seem to loose more. I know, its my eating, still. Rode up 1800' of ball busting hills today trying to justify ribs my wife cooked up for dinner. Another, 10 lbs, I am good to go and get up those damn hills a little faster. My fighting weight was 145 lbs. 165 now, so another 10, I am a happy camper. Its going to take a lot of discipline to keep my hand out of the cookie jar.

Over the years I've ridden with many "Butch Women" on the track - Big muscly legs with no bOObs but the girls can ride!

I can't even find half decent bar tape locally right now!

I've had these for a while: NOS Campagnolo Record OR hubs. (The OR stand for Off Road or MTB) These are very rare. I plan on building them using 600b carbon rims for a gravel bike. The Freehub is 8 speed but I have the parts to convert it to Campagnolo 10,11,12 speed.

I've always worked on bikes and built wheels in my spare time. I started around 14 or 15 so close to 40 years now. At one point I was brazing frames for a local builder. This was before I joined the Army at 20... I lost my job because of Covid almost two years ago so I decided to retire. Working on bikes & building wheels helps me stay busy but I don't make any real money doing it.

On weight: I like food so I have to keep riding EVERY DAY if you know what I mean.

Sorry to hear about your job situation. What type of work did you do before retirement?

It is funny how we go back to something we know well and enjoy doing it. I started about 16 also, building wheels for myself then work in a shop putting bikes together and built wheels when needed. Scary someone is riding on my wheel

Every chance I get, I wrench on my friend's bikes with the exception of the new stuff. No tools and have to learn how to take the BB out. Its has gotten very complex. A guy I met on the ride is putting together an old steel road frame, Yeti, from the 90s and he has no clue how to do a thing on it. Only thing he did was paint it. I was hinting on Campy 9 speed but DA won out due to cost. too bad he's putting on some crappy America Classic wheels instead of Mavic's Cosmic, the early alum., or Open Pro CD on there. I don't do this often but I will enjoy this. Now, I only need to buy a frame table. Hey, your box of Campy tools will come in handy come to face the headset.

Thanks all the same but it was my decision to retire. Lots of hard work got me into that position but I've also been very lucky in life. I looked for a new job for a while but I didn't like what was on offer. Funny thing is I'm now very busy doing all sorts of stuff I never had time for when I was working & raising my kids.

I used to work in the IT support field. My last job: I had worked for a company for 18 years and they decided to retrench me to save money even though they had just secured a new major contract with the local government. As part of the Gumbit contract 70 odd people transferred over to the company I worked for and it was a condition that they couldn't retrench any of those people for 24 months so they cut existing staff instead!

Funny thing is about 10 months after they let me go they lost a big part of that contract because of multiple missed milestones. Maybe the dumb ****ers cut back too far? ... lol

By road bike standards they're heavy but those tyres are tubeless. They're lighter than they look & that bike can go anywhere.

It's got some good parts on it. If those brifters are Dura Ace and they're working they're 100 for the rear and 60 for the front. Decent Mavic wheels, and the brakes look vaguely like charcoal 600s (or Ultegra?)

You won't lose money on that. Might make some if you're patient.
