We sold Nomura bikes (frames) at the shop I worked at in the early 80's. We were blown away by how light they were. Probably the nicest BMX frame I saw back in my bike shop mechanic days.

Anyone know why the forks are inverted in those high speed bikes and the use of smaller wheels up front?

Looking at the geometry of the front of that bike, I'd think the inverted fork would act more like a caster wheel does. At high speed it'd just wiggle waggle back and forth without really having any effect on the steering of the bike. I could be wrong, but that's how I see it working. Smaller wheel is required because the axle has moved backwards closer to the frame. A big one probably wouldn't fit.

I always thought the small backwards fork thing was to allow these high geared bikes to pull in closer to the vehicle they were drafting behind.

Anybody got a Jones bike? I've been doing a semi-deep dive into these and the more I learn, the more I want one of these.

My new Dinglespeed drivetrain on the rigid MTB
2 cogs, one for trail, one for road. Yes, I have to loosen the wheel to change cogs but I'm either on the trail or on the road, rarely both in the same ride.

So I didn't want to spend $120+ on the Jones H-bars just to see if I like the concept and bought some $40 Satori bars with similar rise and sweep (but lacking the H part in front). Instant like. The upright riding position and more natural wrist position is so much more comfortable. Have not had them on the trail, but I suspect they will be very good. It's easy to fall into the Jeff Jones Cult, but these really do perform exactly why and how he describes them. Next step, a full-on Jones bike??? Maybe

Another great Paris-Roubaix last weekend. The 3-peat for Mathieu Van der Poel!! Replay is on Peacock and if you don't have 6-hours, just FF to the last 100K or so.
I've now got a couple of trail rides in with the swept-back handlebars and they make a significant difference in balance. Because of the more upright riding position, you are more centered over the axle. I found negotiating skinny bridges and other narrow features much more natural. We'll see how it goes long-term but not seeing any negatives with these bars at all. Found some proper 175mm grips for them.

I am intrigued by this bike I saw at UHaul.
Kinda cool flip flop rear hub, so “Free wheel” or “Fixed gear “. Not familiar with the brand either. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Seeing the flip flop hub took me back to my early BMX days , back when we’d hit between 3 and 9 races each weekend when chasing points. Being that tracks varied in length, elevation and technical, faster, slightly elevated, run a 44/15, in the morning, then the track you race in the afternoon, is more technical, so flip the rear wheel and you have a 44/16, quicker acceleration, out of the turns, and going up short shoots to a jump.
