WOW, I have never seen or heard of such animal, coool. Now, I bet it would have caught on if that was the bike he used on that day he lost Roubaix to Planckeart. All that thing needed is foam grips and suspension off road forks to complete the look or function.

^I've never seen or heard of that one. Noticed the dual control, but what year would this be? I would have thought it easier to stay traditional race geometry but squeeze in honking fat tubulars.
Look171- Funny you mentioned the suspension fork. They successfully ran RockShox at the Paris-Roubaix. It was for 700c, special magnesium / ti bits with nominal travel.

For one into tandems, this is my grail. Frame is art. Custom double butted tubes made specific for this frame and yes, painstaking fillet brazed. NO flexi but beautiful ride. Because of the labor intensive and time, not sure if today they offer or will do fillet brazed. Long list of vintage and rare parts on it. You cannot trash these wheels. The 48 spokers, Ukai rims w/ Phil hubs could probably handle 800lbs.... lol.

It has to be in the early 90s before the susp. forks. I bet that must be 92 or 93. I remember the susp. forks (also early to mid 90s). As a very traditional road cyclist, I laughed about it, but it did catch on for a few years. They somehow fitted it with regular side pull brakes. I don't remember if anyone ever win Roubaix with it? Remember Bianchi has a special front and rear suspension bike especially built for Museeuw? I think it was in the early to mid 90s when he was riding for the Italian GB/MG. it cost something like 20k to produce. |

This is where I found the Bauer 'Stealth Bike' ... CyclingArt: Steve Bauer's Stealth Bike
Excellent blog, BTW. Interesting comment : " ... Our shop owner who has been in the industry for 40 years told us that Merckx was against the idea of designing this bike for Bauer. And that when Bauer was done with it Merckx wanted it back so he could destroy it."

Looks like Bauer tried a shock as well. And the ducktail on the seat so he wouldn't slide off. Also, 185mm crank:
![]() Damn. That hurts to look at.

No, that is not my cafe (although I wish it were!) I'm afraid I don't have anymore pictures of the place (readily available anyway) but check out their website - Musette Caffe The owner is a cycling nut himself so he's collected a lot of cool stuff over the many years!

Reminds me of my reeeeelaxed '67 Raleigh DL1. Stock photo but have one identical. Three speed, rod lever brakes and Brooks B67 with coils.

^^one too many
No wall hangers and do try to ride all of them. The Senna pic is neat. I read somewhere that he had a deal going with Audi (yes, that Audi) for a limited edition brand of bikes... Senna / Audi. This was very close to happening, within months of that fateful day. ----edit: I was inaccurate about the Audi Senna bike but he was close to having a franchise in Brazil. The bike deal was with Carraro for three models of bikes, one being made of carbon fiber. http://ayrtonsennadasilvaforever.blogspot.com/2013/09/ayrton-senna-launches-join-venture.html

Is that a Bianchi or Peugeot with McQueen? I've got to show that to my bride...LOL.
I preserved this vintage Raleigh Twenty folder for her. Converted the quick attach picnic / champagne baskets (not shown in the dark jacabean stain). Three speed, smooth rider for only a 20" wheel. The mattress saddle is partly an inside joke.

This is a great picture:
Father and son; Dad providing the confidence. (McQueen was truly pint-size, wasn't he?) ![]() ...and lest we forget, there's also a famous racing driver in the picture below.... (Sure does seem like shirt-off was more common back in the day, doesn't it?
