Sad, very sad..and yes we are less moral today. By the way the news is not saying that he was crazy, only posters here. He could have been in his right mind. Whatever the case this is truly sad. I feel for the parents of those babies.....

Nobody in his right mind kills 20 five year old children.

Horrific actions of a disturbed mind- my thoughts are with the grieving and the lives cut short. Senseless, and nothing can ever be repaired
A broken mind fed with a steady diet of make believe violence/ killing on TV through video games, movies, dramas etc. will surely seek violence at some point. Monkey see monkey do. Our society is as much at fault here as anyone. In other words we as a society that stews in violence should either accept these occurances or make changes. I for one am not shocked to read about these sorts of occurances any longer. It does however haunt me and erode my dwindling belief in man as a whole. I cant' even allow myself to think about losing my daughter to this kind of tragedy. Everyone with kids needs to go home today and tell them they are loved and give them a good squeeze no matter how old they are. Google: "We need to talk about Kevin". It's a movie I had the misfortune of seeing. I have never been truly upset after seeing a box office movie. This one disturbed me in a way no other movie has. I wish I never saw it. And now even more so. |

My wife is very upset about this. I am numb.
We have a shooting massacre in the US every few months. Everyone cries and gnashes their teeth for a couple of days, then nothing happens. No changes are made. At the end of the day, it is not unlike the constant river of people being killed by random crime, accidents, and diseases - just that today, 27 deaths were aggregated into one terrible event with a single perpetrator. What changes can be made? There will be no additional gun control in the US, whether you agree or disagree with it. Mental health budgets are being cut, and the ability to find and treat these people is limited anyway. Schools will not be decentralized, patrolled with armed guards, or ringed with metal detectors, for financial reasons alone. 27 children were massacred today in Connecticutt. 27 more will be killed somewhere else, before too long. And 27 more after that.

I am a teacher. I certainly hope I never face such a scenario. But I promise you this -- I'd have to be dead before an idiot with a weapon got near my students. I suspect many, if not all, teachers feel the same way.
My thoughts are with all of the families, and those that witnessed the event, too. |

I cringe at the thought of what we might hear next week when these unstable people believe the world is coming to an end..........

As Father Mulcahy on M*A*S*H said once:
“I just pray, that somehow this all will make sense.” Saw that episode about 20+ years ago and I have been saying that prayer ever since. Maybe I just need to pray harder.

What if there had been one responsible level minded person in that facility that had a concealed permit?

It's a senseless waste of life, and that makes me very sad.
A past co-worker of mine summed it up pretty much when he said "These people who do murder/suicides, did that in the wrong order" If you want to go off yourself, fine, but to take out other innocent kids and bystanders, and impact 1000's of people for the rest of their lives, well who knows what can cause that...... Meanwhile Syria is getting Bombed by "rebels", Afgan's are blowing each other up with IED's, and new news today you won't ever hear about on any US news source, in the last 24 hours over 1000 people dead and almost 100,000 homeless with 60,000 homes destroyed and 90,000 homes severely damaged, in a major Typhoon in the Philippines crisis where the UN is asking for $65 million in aid: Philippine death toll rises to 902 after Typhoon Bopha; 80,000 homeless - World News So 200,000 or more people impacted in the last 24 hours in the Philippines, and this is just the initial report. Act of God as a typhon? yes. The Shooter in a school chose to do it, or his mental condition told him to do it. But as I said, you won't hear about that Philippine storm or graphic crimes in the Persian Gulf on the US news anytime soon, time to interview more 3rd graders. Life is short, enjoy every day you have with sincere thanks and appreciation.

I'd like to believe this but I don't know many concealed permit holders that are not paranoid bordering on delusional and/or unstable. I really, really wish the case were different....and yes, I own a gun.

At this time of year, grammar school children are supposed to be occupied with Christmas Pageants, making gifts for Mom and Dad and hoping Santa brings them their Christmas wishes. Instead, for those that survived, it's loss of friends and witnessing an unspeakable horror.
I know it's not much, but I'm going to make a kind gesture to someone in need for each man, woman and child killed in this tragedy. It's the least I can do in their memory.
