Some cool campers in this thread. I bought this 07 Vista Cruiser B+/C last month. Its built on a Freightliner 3500 cab/chassis with the MB 2.7 liter diesel. I averaged 16 mpg coming back to Virginia from Florida @ 75 mph. Nothing like being able to wake up to a sunrise on the beach. Small enough to drive into downtown Savannah and park on the riverfront. However I just spent a week camping in Death Valley/Eastern Sierras (not in my camper). One of the guys in our group had a camper top on a 4x4 PU and thats definitely the way to go if you want to go off road without towing a Jeep.

Here are a couple of sites I visit on a regular basis. The Expedition Portal Forum has info on vehicles, preperation, routes, travel logs etc, etc etc. You can spend hours/days here and travel the world. Great build threads and the people are very friendly.
Expedition Portal Forum If you ever dreamed of driving to Alaska, here is a article for you.... One day I hope to do this. Plan a Trip to Alaska | Places to Visit in Alaska http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360720776.jpg |
...and another thing, the expeditionportal has a trailer subforum section that is pretty cool. Homebuilt trailers of all shapes and sizes. Some of these guys build some cool zhit....

That's a great link. One of the trips I want to do is East Coast to Alaska and then maybe parking the camper in AZ or Las Vegas for future trips in the West.
I think I saw this here on OT, this retired Lufthansa pilot has been traveling around the world in his G-Wagon : A Merc G Wagen Anyway it seems there are a lot of mostly European trekkers who are doing the earth roving thing. When I was in Utah in December and Death Valley last month I saw quite a few motorhomes and campers that were obviously ferried over from Europe. Starry night in Death Valley, I think the light glow is from Lone Pine: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360723291.jpg |

My race rig setup. 1992 Lazy Daze 27 foot mid bath, 1968 R50/2 and 1968 Formula Vee. I often contemplate selling the LD and getting a camper/truck combo to have more versatility and not have to bring the motorcycle but the LD is very comfortable at the track and has become a home away from home and gathering spot for me and my buddies. Plus as usual I've got way more in to it than I could sell it for. |
Jerry, I'm turning green over here. I was drawn to your rig when seeing a pic earlier. But now with the bike on board, too good!!
How do you get the bike on and off the rack? Have you been racing the F VW for long, Is it the fun group it seems? Thanks for the dream pic! Cheers Richard |
