I bought a sportbike rack for the trailer hitch that has a receiver on the other end. On and off is a bit tricky. Take the air out of the rear bags, ramps rigged up from the car trailer and carefully roll it on and off. The nice thing about the BMW is that the center of gravity is really low and it gives me transport around town at the track so I don't have to drive the RV around once it is parked. It gets way more attention than the car. The whole setup takes a long time to put together though and you have to be careful where you go. Storage is pain, etc. But the Lazy Daze is the class of the Class C RV category and very comfortable and I got it relatively cheap. Bought it in 2009 for $10k I think and the new ones are the exact same floor plan and cost north of $80k.
I've raced the FV since 2008. Really a fun group to be in and about the cheapest (still not cheap) way to go vintage racing.

Jerry thanks for the detailed response. This is the rig that planted the seed for me. I saw it at the Mitty in Ga. They had towed from Colo or out that way, and seemed to be having fun.
![]() Not wanting to pry into personal matters. But I am wondering about the costs of racing at this level. Do you do many races a season? Travel to distant races? How much does beer cost for a week end :-) etc. Cheers Richard |

Byron, those GMC motorhomes are sweet! That one has the Torinato FWD engine no?
I have reading about there being some guy there in Fla that does total referb on those rigs. Is this one of his? It looks real nice! Cheers Richard |

The initial buy in is the least of your worries. Wear items, interval between and cost of engine/trans refresh, etc. need to be factored in. A FV driver can get a season out of a set of tires or even more. 3-4 out of a motor and may never open up a trans in his/her career. Entry fees generally are $300 to $500 per weekend. Factor in fuel, travel costs, etc. and a weekend can run $750 and up. We generally have 8 or so "points" race weekends on our club schedule in the PNW from Portland to Seattle to Spokane and up in to BC. The guys/gals with more money and time can stretch their season and travel to other vintage club events in CA or anywhere really. Several of our club members have cars and the means to participate in Monterey and other high end events both in the US and abroad. I don't have a ton of $ compared to many in our club and should be saving more than I do but this is too much fun and I'll do it as long as I can. The group is tight knit, drops everything to help each other out and many have become some of my best friends. ![]()

I don't consider those big things camping and just call them RVs.
The ability to drive a small off-road or bad-road vehicle almost anywhere and then camp is my interest. ![]() |
