So what, Cubans come to the US and assimilate by acting out in racism? Most Cuban in Florida actually came from Cuba. If they were not racist in Cuba they would not be racist in the US. That is unless being in the US brings out a Cuban's inner racism.

Ah, no. Cubans in south Florida tend to be overwhelmingly right-wing reactionaries.

Hispanics are caucasian, right? So, technically, a caucasian can't easily be racist against another member of the same race, right?

Oh, did you mean prejudiced?

Not all Hispanics are white, some are of native American ancestry, some look like black people, etc... Think of Puerto Ricans, they don't look very white usually.

For whatever reason, most racism tends to be directed at people with darker skin than the person doing the hating. The racism in Latin America is directed at blacks and darker latinos, not white people. We're the top of the food chain as far as ethnic privilege goes in this world, and most of the less lucky don't even hate us for it. They hate whoever is below them on the ladder.

Cubans and Puerto Ricans are not exactly in love with each other, either. I've had very good friends of both and got along great with both of them. But not at the same time. Guatamalans seem to have an interesting take on the subject, too.

For sure. There is all sorts of tribalism in this world, racism is just the worst of it.

^^^ dat' be called a racist comment.

How about we just lighten it up a little?

A Mexican, a black, and a white guy are in a bar having a drink when a
good looking girl comes up to them and says 'whoever can say liver and
cheese in a sentence can have me'.

So the white guy says 'I love liver and cheese' she says 'that's not good enough'.

The black says 'I hate liver and cheese', and she says 'that's not
creative' and then the Mexican says 'liver alone cheese mine'.

Part II: Not a racist joke here. I never said what type of good looking girl she was

Ah, no, that was not a racist comment. But I'm starting to see the problem, you guys don't even know what racism is.

You may be right. For example, I was just getting the hang of 'global warming' when it was suddenly changed to 'climate change'.

Depends also on what the definition of 'is' is.

Good point.

As for Sweden, there is curently a very bad situation for Jewish people in Gothenburg. They are being harassed and beaten up by neo-Nazi gangs and the police are apparently not doing anything to apprehend the miscreants.

Climate change "deniers" now comprise only 8% of the US public. One gets the impression they are overrepresented on Pelican OT.

Climate change exists, and has existed since the dawn of time (Ice Age, anyone?). The Earth is a cyclical beast and it cools/heats and does other fun stuff over time. We're not talking the 6000 years some Christians scream about; we're talking about the billions of years the Earth has been in existence. The most educative study I've read showed that humans indeed have added to this cycle and sped it up due to our waste/gases/whathaveyou...to the tune of maybe 50-75 years. In other words, what is happening was going to happen regardless. But now it's happening to you instead of to your grandkids.

I have to admit to being "racist" in one area.

Everytime I see an Obama bumper sticker, I pull up next to it to take a look at the driver...

I have a bias each time that they are "African American". That Bias is pretty much always fed by fact...

IMHO, we all belong to the Human Race, not the Negroid, Caucasion, etc.... A lot of the people that would initially be labeled racists, in reality, have a problem with perceived culture that people of a certain look tend to have in common.

For example, a Lebanese man I know was adamant about how he hates jews, he'd go on about it at just mentioning some thing about them. Having traveled and raced with him for years - its really the culture of both the Orthadox , and Agnostics that have the run of the neighboring country to his home land. I ended up bringing a jewish friend of mine onto our team in a 24hour kart race. They both got along fine.

An example of what might be called "racisms" on a broader stretch, would be Turkey and Greece. Try going to either of those countries, and asking about the people in the other country from which you went to...yikes!!! They hate eachothers guts.

your "study" is incorrect and "billions of years" is not relevant to what is happening now

your post is a common fallback position for climate deniers tho I'm not saying you are one

Lots of O stickers around here but few Black people - maybe up to 5% now

you are correct that there is only a single race of humans extant - a "race" is a subspecies unless you are a sociologist or some other odd sort of creature

In NC, I'm not surprised by the bumper sticker ratio. In Malibu, which is about 94% white, at least 94% of drivers with O stickers are caucasian.

But back to climate: this notion that we are on a natural curve is spectacularly wrong. The rate of warming appears unprecedented. Where natural systems react to warming ("wild weather" and changes in flora and fauna) on a "natural" pace, this change is outpacing the ecosystem's natural reactions. The rate of glacial melt alone is beyond anything previously measured. Equally important is the thawing of "permafrost," which is largely decomposed matter that outgasses methane when warmed. There are over two billion acres of permafrost.

All these percentages being waved around reminds me of an old saying...

"86% of all percentages used in studies/arguments/discussions are just pulled out of thin air" (polite version)

So true. I looked it up. Malibu is 91.46% white.
