The guy escalates a little horseplay into a violent assault and people cheer. Clearly the "bully" had no intention of hurting anyone or he would have been throwing real punches...like the coward blindsided him with. While the "bully" may have "deserved" a lesson...a cheap shot as delivered was not the appropriate one.

By standards established here, someone else should have stepped up and shot the "cheap shot" guy...since his blind side punch was "dangerous" and he could be a "danger" to others.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if someone had shot him, except that there would not have been a safe backstop and it wouldn't have been legally justified, since a well-placed, single punch to the face was all it really took to stop the threat.

What would you do if he had hit Mrs. Fintstone and you were too elderly, infirmed or drunk to intervene? Let him go? Ask a stranger to get involved? Call the police and wait?

fintstone 03-18-2013 01:14 PM

He was not hitting women. There was no threat other than insult to the other guys that appeared to be talking smack. The cheap shot escalated it from horseplay to seriously dangerous violence.

I was referring to shooting the guy that took the cheap shot...he was by far the most dangerous .

Didn't look like he would be dangerous to others. It only looked like he'd be dangerous to one person in fact.

fintstone 03-18-2013 01:20 PM

The guy he hit looked even less dangerous.

bivenator 03-18-2013 01:28 PM

The phrase that comes to mind, "don't start stuff, won't be stuff".

I was glad to see the crowd was held back (for the most part) from kicking the unconscience guy.

I'm guessing the guy that tried to stop the fight and got punched in the face might disagree with you.
Don't call it horseplay when it obviously was not just that.
The beardmonkey is a bully, preying on the weak. He didn't go after a tough guy. He picked his victims carefully.
If he got struck by lightning, everybody would be yelling karma is a beech, serves you right...
Just because lightning wore a grey Tshirt and came hard from the right instead of above is not important.
Bully got his come uppin's. Good times.
I hope he has a headache for the rest of his life.

I didn't realize 'a little horseplay' meant punching strangers on the street.

What if he WERE hitting women? Why would it be different psychologically for you? It's not different legally. Why would you buy the sucker puncher a beer instead?

Depends. We in India?

It's my impression that the three to four guys he was "bullying" were gay, and as a result, were being bullied by the a55hat for the mere fact that they were gay. I highly doubt that the group instigated any type of confrontation, be it verbal or physical, and while their retreat was somewhat slow, they were indeed trying to soften the confrontation. The man in the black shirt was surely struck with a closed fist. It was not a *****slap...And while the slug was not that hard, be it a slap or slug, it was still assault and battery...The definition of which is below.

Definition:
Two separate offenses against the person that when used in one expression may be defined as any unlawful and unpermitted touching of another. Assault is an act that creates an apprehension in another of an imminent, harmful, or offensive contact. The act consists of a threat of harm accompanied by an apparent, present ability to carry out the threat. Battery is a harmful or offensive touching of another.

Even though the A55hat had it coming, there was improper conduct on both sides of the fence. I highly doubt, however, that without the "cheap shot", this confrontation would have ended without worse consequences.

I don't understand BK911's position at all...we're not talking about a punching a guy who is minding his own business, walking down the street. You CANNOT tell me from that video that the guy who got dropped wasn't specifically looking for a fight, throwing punches and looking for more.

Imagine that same guy, in the same state of mind decided to pull out a gun, cock it and aim it at you...would you have wanted to bystander to wait until he pulled the trigger to assume he meant business and step in?!?!?

This video reminds me a lot of Kim Jong Un right now, going around making threats, sinking ships, firing on islands, saying he is going to use nuclear weapons. Should we wait around until he uses one on someone before we take action??

"Bush doctrine" Maybe I am misunderstanding you. Are you referring to a rose bush? Last time I checked, the Bush doctrine is rather political. I apologize if I am not understanding you correctly. Please explain.

Obviously, until he pulls the trigger, its just a little horseplay.

one aspect of the Bush Doctrine is a pre-emptive strike against a dangerous element without that element formally engaging. It's anticipatory self-defense through offense.

I don't see how that's political. Descriptive, I agree, but not political.

The sucker punch was a great example.

Thanks for the explanation. I respectfully disagree that the phrases are synonymous.
pre-emptive strike a descriptive phrase of a strategy
Bush Doctrine reference to a political leader and his policies

The sucker punch was not a pre-emptive strike. The bully was already waving around the threats. It was a unforeseen response to get the threat neutralized.

yeah I agree. If you go back and watch the video, paying particular attention to the guy in the grey shirt, you can see him sizing up the situation. Looks like he holds back a few times, but afterthe guy in the black shirt got hit, he was looking for his opportunity.

Once the thug was down, the kicks at him were inappropriate, IMO. Would have been great if someone peed on him though.

VaSteve 03-18-2013 05:56 PM

There's a whole bunch of videos from that event on YouTube. None of them show what started it though.

I don't snort cocaine, but I like the way it smells.

"A little horseplay" my ass. Fint, you are grasping at straws and starting to make things up. Typical PPOT/PARF "never say die" attitude wherein the guy/gal with the unsupportable position starts throwing out all kinds of absurdities in some misguided effort to save face, only to come across as ever more the fool.
