Fortunately, in AZ there is no sales tax (which is pretty high) on private party vehicle sales. So there's really no reason to buy used from a stealer unless they're just blowing it out.

Usually there are ZERO service records available for used cars at dealerships. (Exceptions may be high line / exotic car dealers). That's enough reason for me to pass.

What confuses me is the timeline of the deposit......

89911 was told his deposit was no good on Monday morning and the email that I received this morning from the dealer stated that the deposit was received last evening after the customer went for the test ride .......

Car exists and so does the other one that is close to the same but without as
Many bells and whistles. I did not get into deep forensics but the ID on dash ends in 308. Dealer said they priced it too low by about 2k and the other is not as attractive at the same price. It is also a big dealership and not the ismall used car place I thought.

So is this the same guy that came in on 3/4 at 9:00am in the morning fresh from his car being totaled and immediately bought this car? I spoke to the car manager who told me that as long as his recently totaled car was ok'd by the insurance company, the car is sold.

I'm completely ok with this car being gone, it's just a weird way to run a car dealership and deal with a buyer. Things just don't add up.

This car was purchased at the dealership and the buyer moved over sea's. At least that what salesmen number one said. It's retail when new was $75,000. It's a 2012 with 6,000 miles on it and now they are asking $56,000 with a CPO warranty on top. Too good to be true. May be why it doesn't exist.

Actually this post was all a ploy to get him back. I can just picture him reading this with one hand holding back the other resisting to log in. He would just tell me to lease anyway.

I went to Dave Walter's two hours ago and confirmed the bait car was real. I posted this information in post #24.

The car is breath-taking.

The "switch" car is the same model but not as cool and more miles - same price.

I said there was concern "on the street" that this car does not exist. I would like to see it. If my phone would send the pic to my e-mail I will post it. The dash serial number ends in 308. I seed it with me own eyes. They were smooching on my fat behind. after I said that.

I will say there was some fluff talk about dates and deposits that did not hang closely with what was said here. Especially the March 4th date. All in all, I would say this is legitimate. However, just saying, ANYONE who would be ready to pull the trigger on the nice 535ix would be profoundly pissed off if they would be offered the crappy one for the same price.

I think it is a case of poor (pathetic) communication vs. dishonesty.
In almost every situation, used car salesman make a LOT more money than new. They are usually begging to be put on the used lot. That said, we do have a tendency to jump to conclusions and if you know the people there personally, then you should give them the benefit of the doubt. There just seemed to be too many inconsistencies to be an innocent mistake.

Yep, even if on the up and up, this one smelled a little too ripe.

Why don't you have Eric find the exact car you want and take all this bs out of it. You'll save money too.

I didn't mean to say I didn't believe you and I appreciate the investigation work. I meant "exist" in a sense that it wasn't ever available. A couple of factors that lead me to hesitate is that it is more then 2 hours away and I honestly am not a big fan of the light contrasting interior. I saw another car with it and came away not liking it so much. As far as why they d*cked around with me, either they were stalling for a buyer that wanted it or they were hoping to sell if for a greater profit after seeing the interest. I'm almost positive if they let me put a deposit on it they day I called 3/2, they would of found a way to back out if it anyway.

Down with that big time. I don't think you had a prayer of getting it.

"Switch" car had dark interior. I agree with you on the contrast. Less is more.

Lots of stuff wrong in the original post. What hits me the most is the 1500 below asking price. When I was selling cars, I would have asked for a deposit over the phone and driven the car to you imediately. While most new cars had $1000 profit built into the sticker from invoice to MSRP, used cars had atleast $4000 profit from what the dealer bought the car for and the window sticker. When one makes only 10% of the profit, you tend to like to sell used more than new.

I bet once the less optioned car sells, the nicer car will be for sale again, possibly for more $$$.

I have experienced this no less than three times. At this point I accept that it is a common dealership tactic and walk if the car in question does not materialize in 10 minutes. They will literally say anything to keep you there if you are looking to buy, and just think they need more time to put the right thing in front of you. Funny how a car can "be out on a test drive" every time I stop by the dealership.

As if I needed another data point to support my philosophy of only buying cars from individuals.....

You know a dealer is always lying. At least with a person you have a shot at honesty.
