I've often had the thought that instead of insurance I should carry the minimum coverage and stick the difference in the bank. By this point I'd probably be WAY ahead.

I have thought about that as well.
The thing that I have such a hard time getting over is how they determine cost. Full coverage on the Boxster is less than liability on my old truck. I was told it was because if I get into an accident with another car I am going to tear up a lot of stuff. Seems to me that I should get the lower rate since I drive the one that will win. Why should I have to pay for NOT driving something made of plastic? That is how it used to be, the lead sleds got the lower rates.
