shed find .

I remember going to a party with my ex girlfriend, and seeing this car in the guys driveway. This was back probably 22-23 years ago, before I even owned a p car. 1976 912 e.
I took my 930 to my nieces b day party last weekend, and this guy was checking it out. After speaking for a few minutes, we realized that we knew each other from the past. 3 days later, he drags it from his shed, and it is in my parking lot. He wants to make it run and drive again. It has not been started for 16 years now. I can only imagine what that gas is going to smell like. Looks like a torsion bar broke while it was stored. It is a little rough.

912E? I rode in one of those once and I have no idea why Porsche made such a thing. I'm on the fence about older 912s and I'm sure I'd like one more if it was in my garage. But, I never got that curious.

Mmm, chocolate porsche!!
Looks like a fun project.
Isn't at the top of my want list, but I wouldn't kick it out of my garage either.

That and it's baby turd brown. Three colors that I'm not big on. BTB, YELLOW or Gold.

Hell, I'll drive a pink 911 before BTB! (sorry for all lovers of those three colors.)

I don't know guys, the brown cars are starting to grow on me. I saw a nicely done brown 76 at Hershey last year, and I could not stop looking at it.
Thanks for the offer Rick, I have a bunch of bars laying around as well. I told the guy that I'd give him the front bars.
"912 E , all the expense of the 911 without the flat six performance" That's funny. He asked me about hot rodding this motor. I talked him out of that as fast as the words left his mouth.

Does the 76 912E still have teh 200mm clutch like the early 912s, the 356 C/SC, and later VW Bugs?

There's this outfit - THE TRIKE SHOP - in Daytona that makes (or did several years ago) an adapter that would go between a harley engine and a 200mm VW or 356/912 transmission/clutch.

One of those, a hot harley engine (12v, plentiful parts, plentiful mechanics), and you could have a lot of fun.

i actually love that color. cocoa brown, chartreuse, viper green, and signal orange are my favorite 911 colors.

I like the chocolate ones, too. What's the process going to be to get it going again?

A small-block Chevy and a few cans of Plasti-Dip could really turn that thing around .

I guess the plan is to first , get it up on the lift, to evaluate the rust situation. I can see the tell tale signs of a rust bucket. It has been sitting in a shed in Pa, for 16 years so it may be a goner. If it is not too bad, drain the gas, and oil, turn the motor by hand. Make sure the fuel pump runs, 5 gallons of fresh fuel, new oil, and turn the key, and see what happens. Mice have also made a home in it, so who knows what we will find.

There was another Porsche brown that was solid - no metallic, almost like a primer tone but best described as diarhea. You wouldn't notice Lubey's neighbor schit if it melted into it. Gawdawful worst color I've ever seen from ANY manufacture. They normally were matched with the cork leather. Sorry to whoever might have one.

Pull the gas tank. Have it cleaned and relined or it could be spitting rust into that new gas. My 911 was a shed find too. It sat for 16 years also. The gas was rank.

912E 's are somewhat rare. i just a built a muffler for a guy that has mint one. he says he gets 40 plus MPG with it. he loves it he also has a 993 but says he drives the 912E daily

Above is the muffler I converted for the guy. its a brand new dansk with his old flanges. it was a bunch of work but turned out great

The best incentive I had for getting my 73.5 22 years ago was:

Owning/restoring a 912 rust bucket first...

The story is that Porsche had a bunch of leftover 4 cylinder parts in the 1975-76 time frame, theso they build a run of these to clear the warehouse, and soothe everyone that was complaining about the ever higher cost of 911s.
Not a Porsche motor at all, Type 4 VW I believe.

912's are wonderful and very special cars.

I truly hope you can get her back into proper condition, Fred.

Rust is the biggest issue with them.

FUN cars to drive!

It's called "Togo Brown" - very desirable & collectible!
