Scarpas are made in Italy . At least they used to be ..
I have a nice pair of Lowa Civetta double plastic mountaineering boots . Love them .

I really like my Lowa Renegade's. I've been wearing them as work boots. So far they are holding up very well and I've been wearing them for a year now.

It depends on what you're doing with them. I have some Italian ones for backpacking and mountain work and some light Gore-tex Chinese ones (Treksta) for general use. Every boot has a certain foot/body type in mind, certain friends of mine swear on particular makes, but often they don't feel right to me. Try a bunch on. Cheers

Danners rock. Company is based in Portland. Two lines. One domestic. One imported from some child labor type country. There is an outlet store in town. Still not cheap.
Thanks for the heads up on China shoes. I didn't know quality had slid. |

I haven't seen any Danners made in the US for years now. At least not at the store.

I have had a few pairs of Merrells with GoreTex & without both work ok for me in the rain. Day hikers suit my use most of the time on trails with a pack usually less than 20 lbs. Get what fits your foot best & what fits your needs, day hiker or something leather with a steel shank etc..

I have not worn boots in a long, long time or hiked or backpack in the mts in the past 10+ years. I am now a running shoe wearing contractor and own a few pairs of made form child labor (many of them are over 18 BTW) countries and found them to be excellence compare to our US made New Balance.
