Pretty much everything in a NASCAR stock car is necesary to it's performance and safety except perhaps the ballast located low in the rocker panels, and a few other strategic locations for balence.

Man, wonder if you could get a nascar down to 2500#,Sorry but yes you could.... its the rules that make that car what it is......, as for a partial? how about every part on the car. And why won't you use aluminum and any other material other than steel. There is easily 800lbs in NASCAR mandate steel parts that could be replace without making a cut. I've built stock cars from production models believe me cutting weight is not a problem, why do you think they mandate a minimun weight in every sanctioning body.
