I like Portland, OR

So much greenery and the people I've run into so far have been really friendly.

Spent the night in Tigard, did some shopping at Lake Oswego area and now at my first appt at Portland Adventist Hospital. The weather is perfect (low 60s) and the freeways are clean! The vistas in the SF Bay Area are prettier but Portland is mellow and clean. Looking forward to working in OR. Tonight I drive down to Eugene.

Jim Richards 06-04-2013 10:02 AM

I like it too. Came very close to buying a home there.

Nostril Cheese 06-04-2013 10:04 AM

Portland is awesome.

So true! Obama stickers everywhere.

craigster59 06-04-2013 10:55 AM

Going there in July, rented a house out on Long Beach for a week. Haven't been in years.

jyl 06-04-2013 11:15 AM

Hey! When you're next here, or this week if you're around, let's get a beer.

I usually go to VeloCult in Hollywood. Lots of interesting vintage bikes to look at.

I'm tied up tonight but should be around Wed and Thu this week, and my workday ends early, mid-afternoon.

The PDX group gets together 2nd Thur of the month, location varies, see thread over in Pac NW forum, I have not been to a monthly in a long time but could be dragged, that should be next week IF they are keeping on schedule.

Porsche-O-Phile 06-04-2013 12:14 PM

Portland is really awesome...

For about four months a year.

herr_oberst 06-04-2013 03:48 PM

You couldn't have picked a better week to come to Portland! Gorgeous weather.

Little known factoid....

My Mom was born in Portland. Grew up in Seattle, though.

Great lady - they must be doing something right out there....

Still with us - turned 90 in February.

rusnak 06-04-2013 06:41 PM

I enjoyed Portland very much when I went there on business last year. I'll stop in again most likely this summer and bring an employee or two as a nice getaway for them. We'll probably have a Voodoo donut after a nice meal at Prime Bar.

This is the only day of the year that it doesn't rain here. People are only nice to you so they can use you. Terrible place to live, everyone is a vampire at night and a bad driver during the day. Stay away while you can.

BigInJapan 06-04-2013 09:03 PM

This thread has me thinking...

Us PDX pelicans should have a get together, maybe at one of the highbrow places like Kennedy School or Edgefield.

I'll check into this for the next event...I did not know. Do I have to bring the TT, or can I drive my lowbrow Datsun 1200? You know, to keep it weird.

Not sure which one...on Columbia? There's a great low-key sushi place on Powell (very lowbrow) that the Japanese Consulate eats at when in town.

Ian

RWebb 06-04-2013 09:36 PM

Ichidai??

BigInJapan 06-04-2013 09:41 PM

There's Pho Vinh on Freemont, south of the airport. Good spot...could be it, but I wouldn't say it's 'way east'.

There's like a whole city block of roach coaches to choose from, and you guys go sit-down with silverware?

Occasionally. I organized/mandated a food cart day for our monthly food club, though. (I think there are about 5 separate complete city blocks of food carts scattered around town now)

rusnak 06-04-2013 10:08 PM

I gotta try some stir fry salmonella...

I's like to join you guys if you're open to visiting Pelicans. I will be in Portland at least one week total per month going forward.

Just bring it....

We even invite Vdub buses on occasion.

LWJ 06-05-2013 06:03 AM

"is that Vietnamese dive bar S. of the airport still open?"

That applies to over 100 establishments. Take a drive on Sandy Blvd.
