Am I the only one who finds drum solos kind of boring? Mind you, I play in a Rush tribute band. And though I play guitar, I know every single grace and ghost note, flam, paradiddle and double stroke Neil plays in every Rush song. And I find his song work so much more interesting than his solos. And he still throws down as good a solo as it gets.
As for Bonzo, there is a lifetime of hidden gems in his non-solo work, from the squeaky bass drum pedal on LZ I to his crescendo snare roll at the end of Misty Mountain Hop. Pure gold. It's the kind of playing that, no matter how many times you listen to it, you hear something new every time. Ok, here's a serious drum solo. Dennis is mostly a hired gun, so it's sort of hard to rattle off his best songs. I've seen him with Bela Fleck, John McLaughlin, Carl Filipiak, Billy Sheehan, Greg Howe, Victor Wooten, you name it. No harder working drummer out there and he kills it. Some of the subtle stuff here is hard to get if you're not a musician. But rest assured, this guy is as good as it gets.

Michael Shrieve's drum solo toward the end of Santana's "Soul Sacrifice"... he is beyond inspired. At one point he's playing 3 beats at the same time. I've watched it on video many times, and I still can't believe it.
I love how, during many drum solos, the other musicians walk off the stage to have a smoke, and relax and watch the drummer. That is so cool. ![]() __ |

So many great drummers. Michael Shrieve, Terry Bozzio, Billy Kilson, etc. Of course, you can't go wrong with Omar Hakim....

There is only one real answer. Although it deserves to be listened to in the full context.
Last solo only:

Here's my favorite drum solo! Starts at around 45 seconds.
Although as you might guess from where I was standing when I filmed this a few weeks ago, I'm a little biased! |

Ron and I were good friends in the 70's I will never forget how women would fight to be with him. One night at a club I stopped a fight where 3 girls were beating and kicking outside a club they were playing at.

No question in my mind it's Michael Shrieve playing at Woodstock with Santana in
Soul Sacrifice Maybe not the best technically speaking but for sure the best performance
