The kicker about this is the people don't really care about your possessions, just the badge, the image it conveys. If someone really liked the 944, the barest research would reveal they could likely have one - they don't want one, they just want to be upset you've got one.

A kid at a taco stand was raving about my CBR600RR parked outside last week, and wishing he could get one, adding "must be nice!"). I pointed out mine's a 2006, pretty easy to find for five grand or so, and really not much different/faster than the 2003/4s you can find for only two or three grand (though in your 20s the insurance is about as much). Heck, if you just want to start riding, you can find stuff for a few hundred bucks. His eyes sort of glazed over a minute into the conversation - he'd rather envy people riding than figure out how to get a bike himself.

My ex-business partner said the same (pretty much) thing to me simultaneously while discussing why he wasn't going to pay my yearly % of the profits...............................

After much discussion, it was clear he intended not to honor the contract we had, offered up 'doctored' P&L statement and became angrier as we talked. I kept my cool as I had an idea that this was going to happen.

In the end he became so agitated that he lost his temper and said the reason he wasn't paying me because I had a nice house, hotrods, Porsche and motorcycles and (get this) my wife was 'too hot' for me!!!!!!!!! Further HE didn't have any of those things.........

Honestly...........for a few moments I was so stunned at his response I was at a loss for words......rarely the case for me. After I regained composure my retort "I've had tough times too and this is my second marriage......................but you know what? I make better decisions and work hard to maintain them.

Then we just glared at each other...........................Then I said "You're f**kin pitiful dude" and walked out. I could not believe I just was part of that conversation with a middle-aged guy

wow - congrats to the woman who took you, if she had to put up with that sort of crap for long. Really - that is what you get from this?

Similar thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was out in the countryside a couple of miles from home. As I was turning left on to the main road there was a cry of "Rich MotherFkR!" from one of a bunch of guys sat in their front yard (with beers, if that's relevant.....). It's worth mentioning that there were also several kids playing in the yard.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, a few days after we moved in, I had the 911 outside. As I was talking to my son, a R.C.M.P. cars comes up our drive (our drive is another story. People have used it as a rat run for years as the building was empty and still feel entitled to drive through at high speed). Anyway, I digress. The cop stops & jumps out the car & comes over saying "Oh wow, its beautiful, I've always wanted one of the older ones"
We then had a really nice chat & I offered him a drive anytime he wanted (not as stupid as I look...).

I live in Los Angeles County. You see a p-car every few minutes driving.

I can see somewhere that they are very uncommon that to the untrained eye its hard to tell a new one from a well maintained older one. Even in LA, people see mine, which is in pretty good shape for an 84, and assume its worth double or triple its value.

That said, she was a biotch.

time can suck.

the woman in the OP may have struggled against life for years, POP may have struggled against a woman for years.

both can yield an outburst.

I commend you for your composure but in this day and age I wouldn't be surprised if someone came out of that house with a gun drawn on you.

IMHO is best to leave them be.

This thread has touched some raw nerves or so it seems.

And have you ever noticed how the bad guy in a movie is often driving a Porsche?
Ray Liotta's character in "Hannibal" (sequel to "Silence of the Lambs") drove a Boxster and he got his brains fed to him.

BTW: Welcome to Porsche ownership. A lot of non Porsche owners have no idea how old our cars are.

Two of my neighbors have chickens -- looks like there is a loophole for those if they are "free-range"...

Looks like chickens are off the list too:

Well, I'm still in trouble with Mrs. Ohhaha so I can assure you it wasn't any social experiment.

Sid-for being a young one you have a sensibility about you based on your comments here. You are right, though. I should have just let it go but I took it personally but it's sort of difficult NOT to I suppose.

I don't make any apologies for having some good fortune. My wife and I have both worked hard to get where we are today. Both of us have been laid off in the past 5 years and had to start from the bottom at new careers.

BY the shape of the gal's car and home I would say she is probably not having the same good fortune. That doesn't make her a bad person and I am glad that we were able to clear things up. If this would have happened in another city I wouldn't have done anything. I have seen this car around town so I knew it was someone from here.

Jeez, I've never lived anywhere that I can recall anyone commenting on any of my cars -- except when I was overly proud of my 928 convertible and someone (appropriately, in retrospect) took me down a notch by telling me it looked like a Miata.
