Ah, nice catch. I need to book an appt. with the optometrist soon.

They're generally a rarer spec. and coveted by racers. 99's are nice to convert, as it still has a cabled throttle body.

~6'3 w/ a watermelon head. Not a big issue until I put on a helmet.

May have a sunroof but it does list a LSD on the option list. Those are hard to find.

Very true.

Pretty sure all '99's have LSD. And it was the only year for cable actuated throttle. All other years were fly-by-wire.

No, it was optional and would show up on the options code listing. The white car has 220 on the options code sticker, which is the "Locking Differential 40%". I've had five 996s, I think two of them were 1999s. None of them had an LSD, it is relatively rare.

Correct on the cable throttle though. My favorite 996 is a 1999 with the 3.4. I like the linear response of the cable throttle and the 3.4 is a very rev-happy and flexible motor. The 3.6 has more torque, but I find that it has much less character. I also think many of the stability and comfort improvements in 2002 made the car feel less nimble.

Matt, I won't argue about the LSD. It was something I remember the gent I bought mine from telling me. And I thought I confirmed it somewhere, maybe even here on RL. But that was a long time ago. :)

2002 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe! 6 Speed! Sunroof! Black on Black!

Pazuzu 12-18-2015 01:11 PM

I hope this counts as "affordable"...

Sat in a guy's recent purchase (April). 2002 996 Turbo, 27K miles, hop up parts to support some track miles (GT2 nose, brake upgrade of some kind, etc). Not cage level stuff, but some upgrades. Some kind of blue, maybe Lapis Blue, tan interior, 90% perfect looking all around. NOT a Tip...

$35k.

That seems affordable to me!

M.D. Holloway 12-18-2015 07:50 PM

So close....so close

911boost 12-18-2015 08:57 PM

$35K isn't ad all for those miles, what is wrong with it?

The one thing no one has mentioned is the giant PITA factor of changing the stereo in the 03+ cars that have the MOST fiber optic system...

I've gotten all my cd's out again.

It's easy if you pay $900 for the adapter kit! Probably the best compromise is to just install a Denison 500SBT or MOBRIDGE to add Bluetooth and iPod to the existing audio system.

Honestly you run into this issue with most modern (overcomplicated) German cars, I think that MB, Audi, and BMW use similar systems. Funny how American and Japanese cars can have better audio without stupid convoluted technology.

Matt, Anyone
need opinions.
1999, cab., tip, factory hardtop,18" wheels, 80k, many upgrades. Found here on West coast Florida. Asking $18.. Very nice and very clean.

TIA John

onewhippedpuppy 12-21-2015 04:22 AM

John, a cab with a tip is pretty much the least valuable 996 out there. $18k sounds pretty steep for the mileage, but if it is an exceptional condition car that has all the right upgrades, then it's not bad. I think you could probably find a similar car for about $15k with some searching, but if you would then add the same upgrades you might end up in the same place.

1990C4S 12-21-2015 05:08 AM

Agree. That's a 15k car, as Matt said. '99+Tip+Cab=the lowest value 996.

Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet w Hardtop | eBay

that's what I ask for Thanks guys. John

1990C4S 12-21-2015 09:25 AM

Airbag light is on. Cab. Tip....

A bunch of 'added options' blah blah blah.

Still $15k in my mind.
