The C4S is the one 996 model that seems to be holding its value.
I have never driven one, I assume they are quite nice. And I believe, unlike a 964, you can make it RWD only for the summer.

The C4S and 996TT is very easy to make 2wd.

It would be neat if I could retrofit that newer glass window. I've had the plastic one replaced twice now.

You can get a new top for the older cars that has a glass rear window. But the downside is that you have to replace the entire top.

Five years ago I purchased a 2 owner 996. All service records. 69K. Arizona and Nevada.
Perfect 6sp coupe. However, as soon as I drove it home I performed the 60K maint. Not done by the second owner. Shame on him. The original owner, a doctor in Arizona drove it for approx. 10 yrs and a Marine Lt. drove it another twenty thousand miles. Changed the oil but not much else. The second owner took good care of the 911 but couldn't turn a wrench or spent money at a independent or dealer. No matter. I performed all the 60K and more. New pads @ four corners. New water pump. New Oil goose neck. Changed the transmission oil. Cleaned out the debris behind the radiators. Replaced the window regulators and motors, ignition barrel and a lot of other small items. So yea... you can get a nice early water cooled 911 and enjoy it for less than 20K but you are going to have to throw some coin at it to keep it right. I love the car and don't drive it as much as I did during the first couple years but it is sitting the garage with a charged battery waiting for the next trip around Lake Tahoe. Has it appreciated? No. Do I care? No. Is it fun to drive? Yes. Just maybe in ten years from now... one of my kids will get it and by then it might be worth more than I got it for. Doesn't really matter. |

I honestly have no clue. It is supposed to be fairly labor intensive but not super hard, there are some DIY guides that I have seen on Rennlist.

I thought this would be a good place to post this. A good friend of mine contacted me last night saying that he is considering selling his Porsche. The car is truly a good-weather weekend driver. I wanted to get a few opinions on what the value of his car would be should he decide to sell it.
The car is a 2004 C2 Cabriolet. My friend is the original owner. He took delivery of the car on March 31, 2004. The car is located in Philadelphia. This 996 is immaculate. It has always been garaged and has never seen bad weather. The car is put away all winter, being stored with a battery tender. All service records have been kept and will be provided to the new owner. Last summer, the 30K service was performed and the tires were replaced. These were both done due to age, not mileage. The car has 24,000 miles, roughly 2,000 per year. The IMS has NOT been done. Prod Month: 09/2003 Exterior: Arctic Silver Metallic Interior: Black Standard Leather Warranty Start: March 31, 2004 (date of delivery) Additional Equipment 342 Heated Front Seats 411 18" Lt Alloy Carrera Wheel 446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest 476 Porsche Stability Management 551 Porsche Windstop (Deflector) 680 Bose High End Sound Package 692 Remote CD Changer (6 Disc) 750 Delete Cabriolet Hardtop AA Black Standard Leather CPT Storage Lid Bin W/Porsche Crst M6A Black Mats - Porsche lettering P15 Power Seat Package P74 Xenon Headlamp Package V9 Black Top X1 Arctic Silver Metallic X54 Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes X71 Aluminum Instrument Dials Y06 Alum/Lthr Shifter/Brake Handle Z0997 Custom Tailoring What do you think that this would bring on the open market? |

I would list it at $25 but I don't think he will ever see that.

Tell him to wait until spring and he'll have way better luck.
