best turntables are just the table by a high end maker
then add a custom tone arm by a different maker
and another corps cartridge

so a clue is if the unit was sold as a single makers product
it maybe a good mid-range turntable
BUT not a top end unit

LOL. just noticed on that Santana album I got, there's a sticker top right that says:

Fantasy records and tapes 2525 N. Grand Santa Ana
$1.99

How cool is that?

The cover looks kinda like this only older:

Check to see if your led zep 1 is the rare turquoise sleeve. If it is, you'll be happy as they have sold for around 2 grand. Silly but they do. I have the first pressing USA release. Not rare but it does sound amazing

There is no reason to pay high prices unless your a serious beatles vinyl collector and know what your buying since all their stuff is now reissued and remastered at normal prices. The beatles box set did get slammed with bad reviews because of pressing and printing mess ups. But they can all be bought individually and they have all been reviewed on the net somewhere. A mono version box set was supposed to come out this year... No word on that yet that I can see

Problem is people see Beatles on something and the price quadruples. Maybe I'll get lucky at a garage sale or something.

Considering how Fantasy/Saul Zaentz screwed over several artists in the 70's with dozens of frivolous lawsuits and purposely withheld royalties, I'd say its not very cool.

Don't know anything about that, just thought it was cool that back then an album cost under $2.

Somewhere, I've got an unopened copy of Sgt. Pepper my dad bought new. Might even be a mono pressing.

If you're a stuff guy Technics SL1200. The younger crowd still use these as a go-to and anybody can fix them. I own a couple and have been solid for years.

I think there's a company called Audio Technica or something that makes awesome replicas...I've heard good things. Look into it.

VPI Traveler is worth checking out as a high end entry level table. I'm a big fan of their stuff.

Does the knock off technics 1200 weigh as much as real one? The best part of the 1200 is how solid they are.

I tripped into a decent score today. I went to an estate sale on a whim because the ad said they had lp records.

I wish I had gone Friday when it opened, I bet a lot of the records had been sold already.

Anyhow, I found two I liked, bought them for $2 total.

I also bought a complete Kenwood system with turntable, amp and speakers for $25. I guess the tone arm had been upgraded, it was an audio technics tone arm which was not what was standard on the turntable according to the internet. The stylus is broken so I will have to buy a new cartridge for it. I'll probably end up replacing the belt as well.

Anyhow, I looked up the albums on ebay and was pleasantly surprised to find that the Kinks album is apparently pretty rare and is selling for about $90! The one I have is apparently the first US pressing based on the etching. The jacket has water staining on the top which would certainly devalue it some but the record itself is in excellent shape with no scratches.

Anyhow, pretty cool score I thought. The Monkees album is only worth about $7 though.

I just bought a Hendrix album off eBay today.

This could get expensive!

Here's the thing, I don't own a turntable, lol!

Any suggestions?

Anyone else rediscovering vinyl?
Hendrix: 'The Cry of Love' is a must have on vinyl.

I still have my original massive vinyl collection and have added some over the years...from A to ZZ Top!

I've seen this thread every day for four days and I click on it every time, hoping for a video of Michelle Pfeiffer squeezing into her cat suit.
