Good for all of them!

A right-on article...just emailed it to my fiance.
.
When my fiance and I announced our engagement to her family this past month and they all went gah gah over the diamond, her sister began texting her friends and her children and went on and on about >The Wedding<. The sister was out of her head with the excitement around the plans and the big wedding.
They've all gone flat now that we have said that we'll just probably take a drive up to the mountains one day and come back married.
Sorry to disappoint y'all, but....

Except for the aforementioned coworker with the expensive marriage, all of my friends are the same. I'm going on 12 years, several really good friends whose weddings that I was in are about 10 years, and a few more are just behind them. Same goes for my wife's two married sisters. I hope the trend continues, I wouldn't want to wish divorce on anyone.

We were married in 1994. The ceremony was held Carter's Lake in the north Georgia mountains. The reception was at the picnic shelter. Two friends who enjoyed photography as a hobby took pictures. A friend baked our cakes while another who was into crafts made flower arrangements.

We didn't really need anything, so our invitations suggest that "your presence is your present." We did ask folks bring a dish for the pot-luck reception. During the reception, we had our married guests play "The Newlywed Game" even though many had been married for years. It was a blast! Total cost was a couple of hundred bucks. People who were there still tell us it was the best wedding they've ever attended.

Garage
Some older friends in grad school eloped a decade or so earlier and threw a bash for everyone on each anniversary. They very much focused on celebrating their marriage over celebrating their getting married. That's so cool...

I must be doing something right. Been with my childhood sweetheart for 28 years yesterday. Got together when we were 18. Love her more now than ever.
