The face of industry is rarely pretty no matter where it is found...

I would still live in Canada over any other country in the world...

Strip mining can be beautiful, at least far enough away.

Diavik Diamond Mine, Canada
MAPfrappe: Open Pit and Strip Mines

I guess a good caption would be; Do you want jobs, or don't you?

Funny you should mention this... I was just googling the mines last night:

Dropped Pin
near Wood Buffalo, AB
http://goo.gl/maps/Nm9Jz

It's pretty amazing how expansive the mine pits and tailing ponds are.

However, when you zoom out, it's absolutely staggering how vast the surrounding wilderness is!

I think sammy's employer alone has more superfund sites than in all of Canada. Why don't you look in your own backyard?

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

No, you don't think or you wouldn't have posted that.

My employer has no superfund sites that I am aware of. At one time they were listed a partially responsible for 4.
The company has settled and/or closed each of the superfund sites for which it has been named as a one of many responsible parties. The company was listed as a de minimis contributor to a superfund site in Abbeville, LA, and the site has since been closed by the EPA.
How did the company get associated with those sites? In most cases, the compant bought property or other companies and the sites were part of the baggage.
My company took someone else's mess and cleaned it up.

No, my employer does not have more superfund sites than in all of cananada, but it does have a substantial team of lawyers. Very aggressive lawyers who take their reputation as a responsible part of the community very seriously.

Might I suggest you try to get your facts straight before making any more libelous claims and get yourself in serious trouble?

Pretty hard to call that libel when he starts with " I think" and then never says one negative word about a superfund site....

Sensitive much?

Good thing Tesoro does not operate refineries in Canada.

Hahha - Thanks Wiki!

Researchers at the Political Economy Research Institute have identified Tesoro as the 24th-largest corporate producer of air pollution in the United States, releasing roughly 3.74 million pounds of toxic chemicals annually into the air.[8] Major pollutants emitted annually by the corporation include more than 400 thousand pounds of sulfuric acid.[9] The Environmental Protection Agency has named Tesoro a potentially responsible party for at least four Superfund toxic waste sites.[10] Tesoro has settled and/or closed each of the superfund sites for which it has been named as a one of many responsible parties. Tesoro was listed as a de minimis contributor to a superfund site in Abbeville, LA, and the site has since been closed by the EPA.
Tesoro has given over $1 million in support of California Proposition 23, which aims to suspend the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006.[11]

What was your point aside from trolling?

I have visited Canada many times and will continue to vacation there. Oregon? Not so much.

the point is the cost (just one cost, actually) to get energy - this being the dirtiest energy you can use, if you do not count coal (or a nuclear 'excursion' with containment breach, and that is unlikely)

it is a counterpart to a thread I started called visit the beautiful Orygun coast, which consists of examples you should AVOID the Orygun coast

ok??

Dirty where? As long as it's not in your backyard?
I doubt if the people of Baotou, China think wind power is clean.
I doubt if anyone living near nuclear legacy think it's clean.
No one knows the true cost of fracking.
etc. etc, etc....

To me this thread is akin to the US blaming other countries for it drug problems.
