I saw this posted on a site a while ago...

Quote:
If HEMI engines have all these advantages, why aren't all engines using hemispherical heads? It's because there are even better configurations available today.
One thing that a hemispherical head will never have is four valves per cylinder. The valve angles would be so crazy that the head would be nearly impossible to design. Having only two valves per cylinder is not an issue in drag racing or NASCAR because racing engines are limited to two valves per cylinder in these categories. But on the street, four slightly smaller valves let an engine breath easier than two large valves. Modern engines use a pentroof design to accommodate four valves.
Another reason most high-performance engines no longer use a HEMI design is the desire to create a smaller combustion chamber. Small chambers further reduce the heat lost during combustion, and also shorten the distance the flame front must travel during combustion.

The sound of a 426 in a street car with headers and mufflers is truly special.

I'd like to have this one. I see your SOHC Ford and raise you a DOHC 426 Hemi. I know, never ran on it's own power.

The carburetors were upgraded to two Carter AFB 750's and the cam shaft is a custom grind solid roller, roller lifters and roller rockers. the bottom end is all lightened, balanced and blueprinted plus the heads are tweaked. Arlen Vankey modified the intake for me. In summary yes its a lot of fun with the 4 speed sitting behind it. The
Dana 60 had 4:10's we switched them out for 3:54 to make it easier to drive on the street. these cars are worth so much these days I'm afraid of someone hitting it. so it stays home in the garage most of the time.

Nice, very nice. I once met a guy through friend that had both a 70 Challenger w/ a 340, as well as a 70 Challenger convertible w/ a 440. He was nice enough to give me a ride in both. Both cars had electrically controlled exhaust dumps and some sort of overgear. Not sure what it's called but mated to the 727 was an overdrive where you had 1st, 1st over, so on and so forth. That 340 was a spinning sob, the rumble of the 440, just wow.

What you have Rednine11 is pure awesomeness.

Mopar also built a few ball stud Hemis that did away with the dual rocker shafts and used a valve train like a Big block Chevy.
They made it in 400 CUI and 440
They did run them I do know that they blew a 440 on the Dyno. No clue how much HP it made.

The OD unit for the Chrysler 727 auto would be a gear vendors unit.

What was the significance of the Keith Black block? I forget. I know they are highly sought after.
