That is one good looking car! Seems like a bargain at $10,000!

If all of those parts work together, that car should be really quick. Lots of value there.

I can't believe that car is that cheap! Don't have room for it but if it was close and real, I would have it by now. Cool car.

Denis-this Callaway https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1980-volkswagen-scirocco-10/?fbclid=IwAR0n1jw9SvSsLd-A0EDKg31cBUl0iT5BqBuIdOEi0MiSqPyf5ASHdNmKYco belonged to a good friend before the BAT seller. His last Scirocco.

What?!?!

That '81 on FB Marketplace really looks nice. Those seats look pretty good, too.
10k? Wow, like Denis said, if it all works, should be a great car. And yowza, I'm staring at a Land Rover restore. I think I'd rather put 10 in a Scirocco than bang my head on an ancient tractor with a top speed of 50mph. ![]() Anyone want a '64 109 with Provenance. I know a guy willing to deal.

I was working in a toy store in 1981 when a customer came in wearing shorts. He had the longest scar on his right leg I had ever seen. It was punctuated with bolt-hole scars. We got to talking and it turned out he had totaled his Scirocco. He had gone off a curve at high speed and rolled the Scirocco. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and went out the passenger side window, it was summertime and the window was down.
I needed a tansaxel for my Rabbit so I went to see the Scirocco. It was truly balled up. During the rollover the passenger door hadn’t opened. When Husain went out the window he bent the door’s window sill out about 16 inches and punched the roof up and out about the same. Sure hated to see sure a cool car trashed. Wish I had bought the wheels. |

In college, my part-time job took me to Eglin AFB near Ft. Walton Beach on the Florida panhandle. A guy I met there was looking for a new car, and I'd just purchased a new '84 Scirocco, so I told him all about it. Fast-forward a month or so, and he tells me he also bought a Scriocco...
"Yeah, it's a Euro-spec model. An Air Force guy bought it in Germany, and got transferred here to Eglin, and traded it. Black on black leather! I can't leave my desk, but here are the keys; you'll see it in the parking lot." Hmmm. A 'Euro-spec' model? Wonder how it was different. I found it, unlocked the door, and sat down. Did I mention this was Ft. Walton Beach? And it was a HOT day. I inserted the key and started up the engine, then reached for the A/C controls. But, they were really weird. No English words like mine, just some symbols. And three slotted levers? WTF? Then it hit me. Euro-spec or not, this car did NOT have A/C. I popped open the hood and looked. Sure enough, no A/C compressor like mine. Oh crap. No wonder the Air Force guy traded it after arriving @ Eglin. My co-worker was not convinced the car did not have A/C. "I just need to read the manual to figure out how it works." Right. He was quoted $5k to install an aftermarket A/C system. Nope. Sold it for a significant loss sometime later.

Beat me to it lol. I absolutely love the look of this car!!! Brother-in-law has a Corrado and it's pretty cool but I just like this one better.

I wanted a Scirocco 16V bad when they came out but I only just got my driver's license a couple years before. I like the Mark I Scirocco but actually liked the Mark II a little bit better. I remember stopping by the dealer just to stare at them, still have a couple brochures.
It's a shame that so few have survived but Jason's comments on the self destructing gearbox and more importantly parts availability makes me want them a bit less.

When my Brother-in-law was fixing up a few things on the Corrado, he had a difficult time finding certain parts also.

There are none in the states... He found a single windshield in England...but its crazy expensive, then add the shipping.. Its amazing that we can get almost any parts for a 50 y/o 911 or 70y/o 356

I will probably have 3 more made this year even though my car's windshield is fine. If I ever paint it, no sense in putting a used windshield back in.

Great video... His favorite car ever? Considering he's driven them all that was surprising.
I owned a 1994 VR6 Golf for about 12 years. More than 300,000km later... Overall a good car but it was not reliable. The engine and gearbox were fine but the ancillaries (starter motor, fuel pump etc.) needed constant repairs/replacement.

I worked at a VW dealer for a while when the MkII Scirocco was new, they are just ok to me. I look at them and feel nothing. When the MKI was new, I wanted to rob a bank to get one.

Loved my 87 16v I bought in late 88. Great car. It replaced my 83 8V.
Cheers

I had an 84 MK!! that I bought with 50k on it and lowered it to 4"with a set of Koni Sport Shocks and Springs. I sold it after about 10 years with over 250k on the odometer and bought a Corrado. The Corrado G60 wasn't as much funs since it had power steering in it and was a money pit.
