Love it. I should see if I can dig up old pictures (prints) of my Mk1 Scirocco. It was the white one with the red and black accents. Loved that car - sadly in its final years with me I abused it rather hard. :(

Lots of love for these cars. Like I said earlier, never owned one but really, really wanted one when they were new.
What makes them so sporty? I mean, are they any different mechanically from a Rabbit of the same year? I've just always been in love with the styling and the interior, seat position, etc... |

Good luck!!! |
yep.
The Screrappo also has seats that drop low (the Bunny seats are fixed high). |
I had one for a brief period. Bought it for a few hundred and painted it in the driveway. Made a few hundred and still hated to sell it. It was great in the snow.

Good lines from any angle (this was winter '84 or early spring '85 in CO).

Such a great looking compact car.

Loved the car...but one thing that struck me was how thin the metal was (maybe to save weight). You could flex it easily by pushing on it gently (like an aluminum can). It was hard to wet sand panels, couldn't lean on the hood, etc... because they flexed so much.
|
yep; on the thin metal.
Mine, I had stiffened the suspension, added sways . . . and the OE metal tore around the pick-up points for both the A-arms and shock towers. I had a hi-comp motor . . . which tore the metal at two motor-mount pick-ups. (learned how to weld thin stuff) Shift-forks - I broke (and fixed) a few of those. (cheap stamped sheet steel) Long story short - it's no Porsche. (fun, good looking . . . just don't drive it hard. It's not 911 tough. Not even close.) |
I had one that looked almost exactly like that, except mine was an '81 S version.
That car really was a lot of fun. So light and fun to drive. |
I had a '79, same gray color, but red interior. What a blast from the past looking at that car. Sold it in '87. Thin metal was clearly for weight considerations; started getting rust along bottom of rear deck lid (watch out for that). Engine was strong, though. Had to adjust the valves just like the 911! Great fun to drive. Your find here is a real gem to be in that condition...

This one might look grey in the photos but it's a metallic grey-ish green. But green.

It's not the photo. Decades ago I had that same argument with a friend about a neighbors Scirocco (same color) - he saw no green, just grey. |
I had a 77, what a great little car, someone painted it deep red metallic. good luck with this one!
|
Still lovely cars.
I had '78, dark blue metallic over tan. Kamei air dam and big(!) 15" BBS wheels in place of the stock 13's. Had a habit of eating head gaskets for lunch, but was definitely tossable for its time. Tim |
Mk1 Rocco that sometimes shows up at the local C&C.
