Update:
I know that this thread is getting a little boring but I put front struts on it plus new strut mounts over the weekend. The rear struts are back ordered until end of Sept. Big improvement, though, since one of the fronts was completely blown-out.
I went with the softer of the sport struts, found them NOS on Ebay for $100 each as opposed to ~$400 each from retail sellers. Also, the mounts were definitely NOS from my supplier because they are Febi and "Made in Germany." For guys that deal with parts a lot, when was the last time you saw that on a Febi part?? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

That's a good question. IDK.
They are plenty firm and have a decent ride, though.

Just not red...or yellow. Maybe silver. And no, not boring in the least.

I just noticed you have wheel studs rather than bolts. Did you install those or the PO? Also, what sort of weird-a$$ swaybar is that? Does it mount to the core support? I've never seen one like that. Doesn't it rub?

Not sure where you think it would be rubbing(?)

Maybe it's the angle of the picture, but to me it looks like the arms on the front swaybar are out far enough that the tires would hit them when turned all the way. The stock GTI swaybar and most of the aftermarket bars I've seen mount to the rear a-arm mounts or near them, and then the arms travel forward, and then out to where they connect to the lower a-arms.
All Volkswagens and Audis that I've ever seen have lug bolts, except I think the Vanagon or one of the vans. If the rear is all braced and boxed, I'm surprised there isn't a bar between the front attachment points for the a-arms. I think the 16v Scirocco had one from the factory. You're really making me miss a Scirocco. But around here they are almost all dissolved to rust. There's a MkII 16v for sale nearby, but I'd want a MkI. That BaT discussion is funny, all those people debating whether it's a 1.7 or 1.8. It's a 1.8, you can tell from the upper radiator hose. Now whether it came with that from the factory, I can't say. |

Love the car. I have a garage full of cherry Porsches...but am still a bit jealous.

German cars from the 80's still looked different from each other and still very German. I hope the one I bought gets here within the next week.

Yeah, but at least they brought back some of the MK1 Scirocco styling. - The MK2 Scirocco... meh.

^^ Thanks for posting - love to see the old VW ads. Eleven seconds 0-60 mph for the '79 Scirocco!
